The Taliban also banned girls from attending school, and women from working outside the home. They were also banned from voting. Women were subject to cruel punishments for disobeying these rules, including being beaten and flogged, and stoned to death if found guilty of adultery. Afghanistan had the highest maternal mortality rate in the world,&#8221; said an article in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/article\/international\/as-taliban-return-20-years-of-afghan-women-s-progress-looks-set-to-vanish-121081700131_1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Conversation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/un-chief-urges-security-council-protect-human-rights-afghanistan-2021-08-16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN chief Antonio Guterres<\/a> said after the Taliban&#8217;s takeover, &#8220;We are receiving chilling reports of severe restrictions on human rights throughout the country.
