This led us to a January 2021 report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.india.com\/news\/india\/pink-buses-for-women-senior-citizens-assam-cm-launches-free-dedicated-bus-service-4320835\/\">India.com<\/a>. As per this report, the image is from Assam. The report states, &#8220;In a bid to provide free transport service for women and senior citizens, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off 25 buses exclusively for women and senior citizens to travel within the city of Guwahati.&#8221; It is worth noting that the Assam government is led by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and not INC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-110001 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/01\/Screenshot-2022-01-11-at-20.06.18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1292\" height=\"1386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/01\/Screenshot-2022-01-11-at-20.06.18.jpg 1292w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/01\/Screenshot-2022-01-11-at-20.06.18-280x300.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/01\/Screenshot-2022-01-11-at-20.06.18-955x1024.jpg 955w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/01\/Screenshot-2022-01-11-at-20.06.18-768x824.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1292px) 100vw, 1292px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the same month, Assam chief minister tweeted about this project as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">CM Shri <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sarbanandsonwal?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sarbanandsonwal<\/a> flagged off a fleet of 25 Pink Buses under Bhraman Sarathi scheme in presence of Industry &amp; Transport Minister Shri <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cmpatowary?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@cmpatowary<\/a> in Guwahati.<\/p>\n<p>Under this scheme, women &amp; senior citizens can avail free bus services for their commute within Guwahati. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YPUkS8tgqL\">pic.twitter.com\/YPUkS8tgqL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chief Minister Assam (@CMOfficeAssam) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CMOfficeAssam\/status\/1347921667557785604?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This scheme is a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/assam-government-provides-free-bus-service-to-women-and-senior-citizens\/articleshow\/80200940.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bhraman Sarathi Scheme<\/a> first presented in the 2020-2021 Assam State Budget on March 6, 2020, by the ex-finance minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma. Under this scheme, women and senior citizens can get the benefit of free bus journeys in specified routes within Guwahati.<\/p>\n<p>Readers should note that the INC-led Punjab government also introduced a similar scheme in <a href=\"http:\/\/olps.punjabtransport.org\/Notification%20on%20Free%20Travel%20for%20Women.pdf\">March 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To sum it up, Congress used images of a free bus service initiative by the BJP-led Assam government as an initiative that Congress will bring upon its election in Punjab.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Multiple social media accounts of the Indian National Congress (INC) have shared a graphic that consists of an image of women taking a selfie in front of pink buses.
