One such survey is circulating on social media with the logo of BBC News attached to it. According to this opinion poll by <em>Janta Ki Baat<\/em>, the BJP is set to win Karnataka with a simple majority. There\u2019s no such survey. Obviously the numbers are bunkum. It\u2019s not on BBC (the link goes to its home page, I suspect to add credibility via its logo). There is no such survey that has been released, nor could we trace an organisation called <em>Janta Ki Baat<\/em> which has conducted such a survey. There is no reference whatsoever to this opinion poll on the BBC website, and the logo has probably been added to lend credibility to the numbers. That the BBC has not conducted any such survey was confirmed on Twitter by Trushar Barot, who is a Digital Launch Editor with the organisation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">There&#8217;s another fake BBC Survey image doing the round on WhatsApp in India. In all likelihood, this &#8216;survey&#8217; seeks to pass off as a survey by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.republicworld.com\/karnataka-elections-2018\/election-news\/karnataka-elections-2018-jan-ki-baat-opinion-poll-says-bjp-crossing-100-seats-congress-reduced-to-double-digits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Jan Ki Baat<\/em><\/a>\u00a0which was conducted some days back.<\/p>\n<p>Opinion polls are seen as a useful tool by political parties to try and sway voter opinion days before the state goes to the polls. Earlier too, such attempts have been observed by political parties who look to subtly influence voters and project a wave of support in favour of a party or leader. Insofar as the Karnataka assembly election is concerned, three opinion polls- <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/times-now-vmr-survey-predicts-photo-finish-in-karnataka\/articleshow\/63884494.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times Now-VMR<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thequint.com\/news\/politics\/karnataka-elections-abp-csds-opinion-poll-bjp-congress-jds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABP-CSDS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/opinion-polls-predict-a-hung-assembly-in-karnataka\/articleshow\/63749210.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India Today-Karvy<\/a> have predicted a hung assembly whereas according to a poll by <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/india\/congress-to-get-clear-majority-survey\/articleshow\/63982413.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C Fore<\/a>, Congress will retain Karnataka with 118-128 seats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With elections to the Karnataka assembly just around the corner, numerous pre-poll surveys have crawled out of the woodwork.
