The surprise was short lived as the <em>Economic Times<\/em>\u00a0article on Cobrapost sting operation has now been pulled down.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Economic Times<\/em> website displays a message saying &#8220;Page Not Found&#8221;. Paytm meanwhile claimed in a tweet that there is &#8220;<em>no truth in the sensational headlines of a video doing the rounds<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">There is absolutely NO TRUTH in the sensational headlines of a video doing rounds on social media. Our users&#8217; data is 100% secure and has never been shared with anyone except law enforcement agencies on request. Thank you for your continued support.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Paytm (@Paytm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Paytm\/status\/1000042122119143424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 25, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>The Cobrapost<\/em> also ran a sting on media groups which was rubbished by the Times Group as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewsminute.com\/article\/doctored-and-distorted-accused-media-groups-respond-cobrapost-sting-81975\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;a case of doctoring of content and falsification&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0<em>Times of India<\/em>, a sister publication of <em>Economic Times<\/em>, also tried to discredit the journalist. In an article titled &#8220;<em>Cobrapost journalist was arrested in 2009 for staging fake accidents and extorting money from policemen<\/em>&#8220;, it alleged that &#8220;<em>Pushp Sharma, who led the so-called operation sting on media groups, clearly has criminal antecedents and a legal history as a blackmailer and extortionist using doctored and falsified content to ply his trade.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that <em>Economic Times<\/em> has deleted articles and tweets that put the BJP government in a negative light. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/indian-medias-attempts-cover-faux-pas-pm-modis-speech-davos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January<\/a> this year\u00a0the newspaper\u00a0deleted its tweet to cover-up Prime Minister Modi\u2019s 600 crore faux pas while addressing the plenary session of the World Economic Forum at Davos.\u00a0 In 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/indian-medias-reluctant-coverage-2017-world-press-freedom-index-reflection-indias-low-rank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">both <em>Times of India<\/em> and <em>Economic Times<\/em><\/a> deleted their stories about Indian media\u2019s low rank in the International Press Freedom Index.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/thewire.in\/media\/as-et-pulls-down-paytm-cobrapost-sting-story-questions-over-its-coverage-arise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wire<\/a><\/em> has reported three major instances where the publication has pulled down its stories in the last year, &#8220;these include reports on BJP President Amit Shah\u2019s assets, a PIL accusing textiles minister Smriti Irani of fraud and another story that criticised the Modi government\u2019s crop insurance programme in Rajasthan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Clearly <em>Economic Times<\/em> has a lot to explain to its readers.
