We found that the incident in question had occurred in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on June 12 when activists of Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) staged a protest outside the SSP\u2019s office. <em>ANI, <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/agra\/aligarh-police-resort-to-lathi-charge-to-disperse-hindu-group-from-ssp-office\/articleshow\/64562798.cms\"><em>The Times of India<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>and <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/lucknow\/hindu-jagran-manch-workers-demand-cinema-hall-owners-arrest-block-ssp-office-gate-5215116\/\"><em>The Indian Express<\/em><\/a>\u00a0were among the many media outlets that covered the incident.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WATCH?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WATCH<\/a>: Police baton charge on members of Hindu Jagran Manch who were protesting outside the office of Aligarh Senior Superintent of Police (SSP), demanding the arrest of accused who had attacked one of their members. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vJkqoWxUkT\">pic.twitter.com\/vJkqoWxUkT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; ANI UP\/Uttarakhand (@ANINewsUP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ANINewsUP\/status\/1006532272122720256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 12, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>HJM, a Hindutva outfit affiliated to the Vishva Hindu Parishad, is infamous for its staunch religious ideologies. Last year, the Uttar Pradesh police had to provide security in all Aligarh schools and colleges after <a href=\"https:\/\/scroll.in\/latest\/862043\/aligarh-schools-colleges-to-get-security-after-hindu-groups-threat-against-celebrating-christmas\">HJM warned Indian Christians against celebrating Christmas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hindu Jagran Manch workers on June 12 forcibly locked the gate of the SSP\u2019s office while demanding the arrest of a man booked for attempt to murder. <em>The Indian Express <\/em>had reported that the man was a cinema hall owner who had open-fired at two members of HJM three months ago. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/agra\/aligarh-police-resort-to-lathi-charge-to-disperse-hindu-group-from-ssp-office\/articleshow\/64562798.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Times of India<\/em><\/a>, SP (crime) Ashutosh Dwivedi assured the protesters that he will personally look into the probe after they claimed that the police was not investigating the case properly. The TOI report further states that &#8220;moderate&#8221; force was used to disperse the protestors when they did not heed to police&#8217;s requests and \u201cmisbehaved\u201d with the general public.<\/p>\n<p>Out of context videos and images are often circulated on social media as part of political propaganda by members of various parties.
