It further stated, &#8220;Nishit Kumar, head of communications and strategic initiatives at Childline India Foundation said that we receive a deluge of calls asking us to pick up food from party venues. Our Mumbai helpline gets hundreds of calls from street children from across north and west India asking for help. Even if five calls are from people asking us to pick up leftover food, it\u2019s a waste of our time. It means some child somewhere is being denied access to us.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14997\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/1098telegraph.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"695\" height=\"772\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/1098telegraph.jpg 506w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/1098telegraph-271x300.jpg 271w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/1098telegraph-379x420.jpg 379w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Receiving a spate of phone calls which adversely affected the cause of the Child helpline, the foundation had issued a warning on the homepage of their official website <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childlineindia.org.in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChildLine India<\/a><\/em>, &#8220;<em>We understand there is a chain mail circulating that says &#8211; one should call up 1098 to pick up leftover food after a party etc so that it is not wasted. This is not true. We are India &#8216;s only and most widespread Children&#8217;s phone emergency outreach service (1098) for children in need of care and protection. We do not pick up food or distribute food. This mail was not initiated by us, kindly do not circulate it. According to a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boomlive.in\/factcheck-1098-is-not-a-helpline-to-pick-up-leftovers-but-for-street-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BOOM<\/a><\/em> report, it is believed that the message was originally a chain email dating back to 2009.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14990 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/FB-111.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"721\" height=\"1820\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/FB-111.png 623w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/FB-111-119x300.png 119w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/FB-111-406x1024.png 406w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/06\/FB-111-166x420.png 166w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 721px) 100vw, 721px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Social media is replete with such hoaxes, which are anodyne in nature but still account for misinformation.
