X users like IDU<\/a> (which is purportedly an acronym for Indian Defence Updates) (handle: @defencealerts) and India War Monitor<\/a> (@IndiaWarMonitor) have shared a clipping from a Times Now bulletin and claimed that the deputy leader of Nobel Peace Prize said PM Narendra Modi was a top candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.<\/p>\n

The video that they have shared shows an interview of the deputy leader of the Nobel Prize committee, Asle Toje. Kickers like ‘Most Reliable Face of Peace’, ‘Biggest Contender for Nobel Price’ (sic<\/em>) are shown on the screen. None of these things are, however, uttered by Toje in the clip. The post by IDU has been reshared over 1000 times and viewed more than 1.5 lakh times.<\/p>\n

Same Claim Made by News Outlets in March 2023<\/h4>\n

Several media outlets reported in March 2023 that the deputy leader of the Nobel Prize committee, Asle Toje, who was in India at that time, had called Prime Minister Modi the ‘biggest contender for the Nobel Peace Prize’ and the ‘most reliable face of peace’ in the world. Some went on to say that he was likely to win the prize.<\/p>\n

In a now-deleted tweet, The Times of India wrote, “\u2018#PMModi big contender for Nobel Peace Prize,\u2019 says Nobel committee deputy leader #AsleToje'”. (Archive<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Economic Times made the same claim in multiple tweets, all of which have been deleted since. In one of the tweets, ET stated that Asle Toje had praised Narendra Modi by saying that Modi “is the most reliable face of peace in the world”. (Archives here<\/a> and here<\/a>)<\/p>\n

In their reportage, a Times Now<\/a> anchor quoted Toje as saying that PM Modi “is the biggest contender for the Nobel Peace Prize” ahead of the 2024 elections and that he was the most reliable face of peace in the world. They further quoted him as saying that PM Modi was the most trusted leader for stopping war and “only he can establish peace”.<\/p>\n

Other media outlets like Mint<\/a>, Oneindia Hindi<\/a>, Mid Day<\/a>, CNBC-TV 18<\/a>, Dailyhunt<\/a>, Zee Punjab<\/a>, ABP Majha TV<\/a>, Loksatta Live<\/a>, Asianet Suvarna News<\/a>, News7 Tamil<\/a>, OTV<\/a> and NTV Telugu<\/a> also tweeted the same claim.<\/p>\n
