Mishra claimed that US President Joe Biden had said, \u201cI am convinced that one of the reasons why Hamas launched a terrorist attack on Israel\u2013I don\u2019t have proof but my instinct tells me this\u2013was because of the recent announcements made during the recent G-20 summit in New Delhi on the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, which integrates the region.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/nxsdM\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-28-162453.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">News agency <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aninews.in\/news\/world\/middle-east\/announcement-of-india-middle-east-corridor-possible-reason-for-hamas-attack-suggests-joe-biden20231026133001\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ANI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> also made a similar claim. It stated that the US President had cited the announcement of the India-Middle East Corridor as a possible reason behind the Hamas terrorist attack. Following this, a number of news outlets published this syndicated story by ANI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-28-163040.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Tribune also published a related story covering this on the front page of its October 27 edition. Many media outlets including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ndtv.in\/world-news\/israelpalestineconflict-india-middle-east-economic-corridor-possible-reason-for-hamas-attack-says-us-president-joe-biden-4515930\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NDTV<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aajtak.in\/world\/story\/us-joe-biden-says-india-middle-east-europe-economic-corridor-could-be-one-reasons-for-hamas-attack-on-israel-ntc-1806605-2023-10-26\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aaj Tak<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhaskar.com\/international\/news\/israel-hamas-war-us-president-joe-biden-on-india-middle-east-economic-corridor-132052524.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bhaskar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0followed suit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-28-125004.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><b>Fact Check<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alt News watched the full video of US President Joe Biden&#8217;s speech delivered at the White House on October 25, 2023. However, we did not find any mention of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lQv_L-NBiNg?si=eYoMTcqZ_QgDqtHO]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We also examined on the White House website the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/10\/25\/remarks-by-president-biden-and-prime-minister-anthony-albanese-of-australia-in-joint-press-conference\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">official transcript<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and US President Joe Biden&#8217;s remarks during their joint press conference. We did not find any portion that linked the Israel-Hamas conflict to the G20 or the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-28-163615.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We also verified this using a transcript of the press conference held by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, national economic council director Lael Brainard, and NSC coordinator of strategic communications John Kirby on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/10\/26\/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-national-economic-council-director-lael-brainard-and-nsc-coordinator-for-strategic-communications-john-kirby\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">October 26<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, available on the White House website. We found that during the press conference, Jha asked the President whether he believed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor announced at the recent G20 summit could have precipitated the terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On this, NSC coordinator of strategic communications John Kirby responded by interrupting Jha&#8217;s question. He said, \u201cI think you misunderstood him. What he said was that he believed that the normalization process and the agreement that we were trying to reach between Israel and Saudi Arabia for normalization, which we believe is an important stepping stone to getting to a two-state solution, was what may have motivated Hamas to conduct those attacks. <\/span><b>I think you misunderstood what he (President Biden) actually said.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-28-163445.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While raising his question in the press conference, Jha had mentioned that President Biden has twice in one week cited the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor as the reason for the Hamas attack. To gather more information on this, we examined the speech delivered by Joe Biden that week on the White House website. We discovered that he had commented on the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/10\/20\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-unites-states-response-to-hamass-terrorist-attacks-against-israel-and-russias-ongoing-brutal-war-against-ukraine\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">October 20<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and Russia&#8217;s ongoing war against Ukraine. In the same speech he had mentioned the India-Middle East- Europe Economic Corridor. However, when we read the transcript of the entire speech available on the White House website to get the full context, it was revealed that <strong>he did not say that the economic corridor was the reason for the Hamas attack<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In fact, the President had actually stated, \u201cAnd if we walk away and let Putin erase Ukraine\u2019s independence, would-be aggressors around the world would be emboldened to try the same. The risk of conflict and chaos could spread in other parts of the world \u2014 in the Indo-Pacific, in the Middle East \u2014 especially in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iran is \u2014 is supporting Russia\u2019s U- \u2014 in Ukraine, and it\u2019s supporting Hamas and other terrorist groups in the region.\u00a0 And we\u2019ll continue to hold them accountable, I might add.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The United States and our partners across the region are working to build a better future for the Middle East, one where the Middle East is more stable, better connected to its neighbors, and \u2014 through innovative projects like the India-Middle East-Europe rail corridor that I announced this year at the summit of the world\u2019s biggest economies. More predictable markets, more employment, less rage, less grievances, less war when connected.\u00a0 It benefits the people \u2014 it would benefit the people of the Middle East, and it would benefit us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/Screenshot-2023-10-30-120104.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To sum it up, US President Joe Biden did not, in fact, say in his October 25 press conference at the White House that the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor at the G20 summit held in Delhi could be a possible reason behind the Hamas attack on Israel.
