Former AAP minister Kapil Mishra had alleged that he saw Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal accepting Rs 2 crores from Satyendra Jain. What followed was a no-holds-barred contest between the news channels to launch an attack on Kejriwal and AAP.\u00a0 A corruption charge on a self-proclaimed anti-corruption crusader saw non-stop media coverage and endless debates with screaming anchors baying for blood. One year later, it has now been reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/delhi\/cbi-lokayukta-give-a-clean-chit-to-kejriwal\/articleshow\/65204868.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Times of India<\/em> <\/a>that <em>\u201cCBI had conducted an inquiry against Kejriwal based on a complaint but found no merit in it and so didn\u2019t launch a formal probe. On the basis of CBI\u2019s inquiry, the lokayukta too closed the case.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Other reports suggest that the Delhi Lokayukta has dropped Chief Minister\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/delhi\/bribery-charge-lokayukta-drops-arvind-kejriwals-name-from-case-satyendar-jains-stays-5285452\/\">Arvind Kejriwal\u2019s<\/a> name but have not yet closed the case and CBI has said that it had never initiated any preliminary enquiry in the case. Alt News brings you an analysis of TV media coverage of the two events \u2013 the &#8216;allegation&#8217; and the subsequent &#8216;clean chit&#8217; by the CBI.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Coverage of the \u201callegations\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Republic TV<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Republic TV<\/em> which was launched on May 6<sup>th<\/sup> was only one day old when Kapil Mishra made these allegations against Arvind Kejriwal. It was difficult for Arnab Goswami to control his excitement at this godsend opportunity for bashing Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party. The channel promoted hashtags like <em>#IsKejriCorrupt<\/em> and <em>#ArvindGate<\/em> on the basis of the allegations. Barring a few channels, the others twisted the narrative and ran headlines and hashtags pronouncing Kejriwal as guilty. The \u2018nation wants to know\u2019, asked one channel as it demanded Kejriwal\u2019s resignation on the basis of charges that were not investigated and substantiated at that time.
