The image description indicated that the image was clicked during a similar roadshow in 2019 after Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers in Wayanad for the Lok Sabha elections that year. In the photo, Gandhi can be seen alongside his sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra greeting party workers during the roadshow at Kalpetta.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-201595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/04\/NIE.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1104\" height=\"1088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/04\/NIE.jpg 1104w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/04\/NIE-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/04\/NIE-1024x1009.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/04\/NIE-768x757.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1104px) 100vw, 1104px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that at the time there was a controversy regarding the green flags seen during the rally, with social media users claiming that the roadshow witnessed &#8216;Pakistani flags&#8217; and &#8216;Islamic flags&#8217; being waved. An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/no-pakistani-flags-were-not-waved-at-rahul-gandhis-pre-nomination-roadshow-in-wayanad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alt News fact-check<\/a> DEBUNKED these claims and conclusively established that the flags seen in the image represent the Indian Union Muslim League, which is one of the six parties in the UDF alliance, which includes Congress.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, on the IUML banner, the crescent star and the moon are placed at the top-left corner whereas the same is placed in the middle in the generic religious banner often used in the subcontinent as well as the Pakistani flag. Moreover, the Pakistani flag has a white band on the left side. In fact, this became a talking point in the state&#8217;s political quarters and beyond. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/elections\/lok-sabha\/rahul-gandhis-wayanad-roadshow-kerala-cm-pinarayi-vijayan-takes-a-dig-at-congress-over-absence-of-their-and-iuml-flags\/article68027243.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> whether Congress &#8216;feared&#8217; the BJP following the controversy regarding the green flags in 2019. On the other hand, BJP leader Smriti Irani <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/elections\/story\/muslim-league-flag-rahul-gandhi-udf-rally-pinarayi-vijayan-ldf-smriti-irani-pakistan-2523198-2024-04-04#:~:text=BJPs%20SMRITI%20IRANI%20SAYS%20CONGRESS%20IS%20ASHAMED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a> that the lack of Muslim League flags at the roadshow meant that either Rahul Gandhi was ashamed of getting support from the Muslim League or when he visits temples in North India, he would not be able to hide his association with the organisation. Social media users pointed out that green flags were seen in the image and made communal insinuations. Rahul Gandhi did hold a roadshow this year in Wayanad on the day of filing his nomination, but there was hardly any IUML flag visible.
