The false clip<\/a> drew nearly 1 lakh views.<\/p>\n

Alt News accessed the Whois data of the website (now hidden) and found that it is registered under the name of one Amit Saxena. The data also revealed the registered phone number and address of the website, which have been blurred in the screenshot below for privacy concerns.<\/p>\n

We looked-up the phone number provided in the Whois data on Truecaller and found that it was indeed Amit Saxena’s. Trucaller also displayed his email address, which matched his Twitter id.<\/p>\n

Saxena’s Twitter account<\/a> is mostly a repository of retweets of tweets by\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e\u00a0<\/em><\/a> and another handle named HinduRepublicOfIndia<\/em><\/a>\u00a0which also has a Facebook page<\/a> by the same name. From what it seems, he could be associated with both the platforms.<\/p>\n

We found that Amit Saxena has been identified as the admin<\/a> of\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e\u00a0<\/em>on several posts by the page, hinting at a direct connection.<\/p>\n

Alt news also discovered that Saxena, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was also\u00a0tagged on posts<\/a> by the official handle of BJP UP ahead of the state assembly elections in 2017.<\/p>\n

A video of founding member of SP, Azam Khan, asking voters to vote for BJP was posted by\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e<\/em> at the backdrop of SP and BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n

3. False claim that Himachal police caught a “Mohammed Ahmed” who used a Hindu name in Facebook<\/h5>\n

In July last year, a post<\/a> by\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e\u00a0<\/em>claiming that Himachal Pradesh police caught a Muslim man running a fake Facebook account using a Hindu name received more than 8,000 shares.<\/p>\n

As it turned out, the page picked up the photograph of a freelance data science, blockchain and AI consultant Zeeshan-ul-hassan Usmani<\/a>. The man has an account on\u00a0Twitter<\/a> as well and had posted on Facebook<\/a> the same photograph used by\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e.<\/em><\/p>\n

4. Fake quote ascribed to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In September 2018, the page\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>posted<\/a> an image which looked like a cropped article from a Hindi e-paper clip. The article\u2019s title was a quote ascribed to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal \u2013\u201cIndia should concede its right on Kashmir as Kashmiris want independence.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0The post was shared nearly 5,000 times.<\/p>\n

Alt News found<\/a> that the image of the e-newspaper clip shared by the page was morphed.\u00a0First, it does not include a date and second, has some serious grammatical flaws. In the first paragraph, the article addresses CM Kejriwal as \u201c\u0915\u0947\u091c\u0930\u0940 (Kejri)\u201d which is uncharacteristic of a mainstream newspaper. In the subsequent paragraph, a statement by Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif is not written in the form of a direct quote. As one reads further, similar slights can be identified. However, the most significant indicator of the falseness of the clip is the fact that it says nothing about Kejriwal\u2019s quote; it is only mentioned in the title.<\/p>\n

5. Fake quote ascribed to BJP MP Paresh Rawal<\/h5>\n

A poster designed by\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e\u00a0<\/em>was circulated on WhatsApp. It ascribed a quote to BJP MP and actor Paresh Rawal saying – “Mere 20 crore Muslims are disallowing 100 crore Hindus from constructing Ram Mandir. If they (Muslims) were 100 crore, would they have permitted us to even stay in our own homes? (translated)”<\/em><\/p>\n

Alt News spoke to the personal assistant to Paresh Rawal who informed that the MP never made the ascribed statement.<\/p>\n

6. False claim that the Indian army caught a suicide bomber<\/h5>\n

Last year, the page circulated<\/a> an image of an old man with yellow coloured bags attached to his body, claiming that he was a suicide bomber who was caught by the Indian army. The post received nearly 3,000 shares.<\/p>\n

The identical claim was also viral this year. Alt News found<\/a> that an image of a Muslim man carrying hashish, caught by the Pakistani army at the Pak-Afghan border in Turkhum, was viral as a suicide bomber caught by the Indian army.<\/p>\n

7. Fake quote ascribed to INC MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Mandsaur rape case<\/h5>\n

\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e <\/em>ascribed a false quote<\/a> to\u00a0Congress Madhya Pradesh MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, claiming that he called for a CBI enquiry in the rape of the 8-year-old girl from Mandsaur, citing the possibility of the rapist Irfan being innocent. The post received nearly 3,000 shares.<\/p>\n

Scindia had never made the statement and the Congress leader had, in fact,\u00a0tweeted<\/a> a photograph of him attending a rally demanding capital punishment for the Mandsaur rape accused. Alt News had debunked the misinformation here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

8. Fake quote attributed to journalist Ravish Kumar<\/strong><\/h5>\n

This statement was ascribed to journalist Ravish Kumar and was posted<\/a> along with his picture on the Facebook page\u00a0\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e<\/em> on March 3, 2018. The post received nearly 9,000 shares.<\/p>\n

Alt News had contacted<\/a> Ravish Kumar to find out the truth about these quotations, who clarified that none of the statements ascribed to him have been made by him.\u00a0This page had earlier\u00a0spread fake news<\/a>\u00a0about missing JNU student Najeeb having joined ISIS, and targeted Ravish Kumar, asking why the latter had not reported on this news.<\/p>\n

9. False claim of Priyanka Chopra wearing burqa during visit to Rohingya refugee camp<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In May 2018, Priyanka Chopra\u2019s\u00a0visit to a Rohingya refugee camp<\/a>\u00a0in Bangladesh\u2019s Cox Bazaar as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador invited much slander and abuse. Subsequently, a photograph<\/a> showing Chopra wearing a burqa was shared across social media platforms with the claim that the actress had donned the attire when she met \u2018extremist\u2019 Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

The accompanying message says,\u00a0\u201c\u0926\u094b\u0917\u0932\u0947 \u095e\u093f\u0932\u094d\u092e\u092c\u093e\u091c\u094b\u0902 \u0915\u093e \u0926\u094b\u0917\u0932\u093e\u092a\u0928, \u092d\u093e\u0930\u0924 \u092e\u0947 \u0918\u0942\u092e\u094b \u0924\u094b \u092b\u0942\u0939\u095c \u092a\u0930\u093f\u0927\u093e\u0928 \u0932\u0947\u0915\u093f\u0928 \u092c\u093e\u0902\u0917\u094d\u0932\u093e\u0926\u0947\u0936 \u0915\u0947 \u0915\u091f\u094d\u091f\u0930\u0935\u093e\u0926\u0940 \u0930\u094b\u0939\u093f\u0902\u0917\u094d\u092f\u093e \u092e\u0941\u0938\u0932\u092e\u093e\u0928\u094b\u0902 \u0938\u0947 \u092e\u093f\u0932\u0924\u0947 \u0938\u092e\u092f \u092c\u0941\u0930\u0916\u093e\u201d (Hypocrisy of hypocrite film stars, will wear anything in India but will wear burqa when meeting extremist Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh- translation).\u00a0<\/em>The photograph of Chopra wearing a burqa was of 2011<\/a>\u00a0when she was shooting for a movie ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’.<\/p>\n

10. Misleading images of first Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru<\/h5>\n

Last year, the page shared<\/a> a collage of multiple photographs of former PM Nehru in the company of women, attempting to portray him as an immoral man.<\/p>\n

However, most of the images were either photoshopped or showed Nehru posing with family and friends. Alt News has debunked these images separately in the past – 1<\/a>, 2<\/a>, 3<\/a>, 4<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11. False quote ascribed to journalist Rana Ayyub<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“Minor child rapists are also human, do they have no human rights. This Hindutva Government is bringing ordinance for death to child rapists just to hang muslims in larger numbers. Muslims aren’t safe in India anymore”.\u00a0<\/em>This quote was credited to journalist Rana Ayyub. A tweet with this quote was posted\u00a0by an account @repubIicTv<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>which is a parody account of the TV news channel. \u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e<\/em> had shared this fake quote.<\/p>\n

The post was later deleted<\/a> from the page.<\/p>\n

12. Fake quote credited to actor Nana Patekar<\/strong><\/h5>\n

\u201cChhipkali raat ko kide makode khakar subah hote hi gandhi ke tasveer ke pichhe chhup jati hai, theek yahi kaam Congress karti aayi hai\u201d (Lizards after eating ants all night hide behind Gandhi\u2019s photograph. Congress has been doing precisely this)<\/em>. This statement was attributed to actor Nana Patekar, and was posted<\/a> by the page\u00a0\u092f\u094b\u0917\u0940 \u0906\u0926\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u093e\u0925 \u0915\u0940 \u0938\u0947\u0928\u093e<\/em>\u00a0among others. It had a massive share count of over 11,000.<\/p>\n

This quote is patently fake<\/a>. Alt News spoke to Nana Patekar who said,\u00a0\u201cNeither have I said any such thing nor is this my view\u201d<\/em>. Alt News found that this particular quote is hardly new and has been doing the rounds of social media for the last few years.<\/p>\n

13. Fake quote ascribed to Anna Hazare<\/h5>\n
