The unrest, which began with rallies against former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has not subsided after the formation of a new government led by Muhammad Yunus.<\/p>\n<p>X user Sonali Rai (<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RaiSonali17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@RaiSonali17<\/a>) shared the video with a Hindi caption. She alleged that in Bangladesh, women had been raped and killed by Muslims. At the time of this article being written, the post has amassed more than 3 Lakh views, and close to 5,500 retweets. href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/C9C08m9hFpJ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this Instagram post<\/a>, from July 5, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-292606\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_74.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1003\" height=\"849\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_74.jpg 1003w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_74-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_74-768x650.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1003px) 100vw, 1003px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: center\">From this, it is certain that the viral video is at least 5 months old.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thereafter, we ran another reverse image search on a different frame from the viral video, and came across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EAw9EaCmPQc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this YouTube video<\/a>, uploaded on July 3, 2024. We conducted a thorough comparison of this video with the one that went viral, and could conclude that they depict the same location. We are not using those frames in the story for their graphic nature of the footage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-292615\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_81-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"962\" height=\"852\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_81-1.jpg 962w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_81-1-300x266.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_81-1-768x680.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 962px) 100vw, 962px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The caption of the video suggests that it depicts the aftermath of a tragic stampede, at the venue of a <em>satsang<\/em> (spiritual prayer) of one &#8216;Bhole Baba&#8217;, in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, the video comes with a description in Hindi, reporting on the death of 122 people, most of them women.<\/p>\n<p>To verify this, we ran a relevant keyword search, and found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/cities\/others\/hathras-satsang-stampede-godman-bhole-baba-not-named-incharge-sheet-against-11-accused-101727897721907.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this<\/a> article by Hindustan Times, which reports on the death of 121 people (as opposed to the count of 122 as mentioned in the YouTube video above), at Phulrai village, on July 2.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-292573\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_73.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1060\" height=\"812\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_73.jpg 1060w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_73-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_73-1024x784.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2024\/12\/Screenshot_73-768x588.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1060px) 100vw, 1060px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/7\/9\/no-woman-left-in-my-family-now-indias-hathras-mourns-stampede-victims\">&#8216;Bhole Baba&#8217;<\/a> is a former police constable turned self-styled godman, whose real name is Suraj Pal Singh. On investigating further, we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/7\/3\/what-caused-the-deadly-crowd-crush-in-hathras-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a> that only 80,000 people had been initially cleared to enter the prayer field, but the event ended up accomodating nearly 250,000 people. After the event, as Suraj Pal Singh got off stage to get to his car, scores of people rushed after him to touch his feet, triggering a deadly stampede in the process, and resulting in the death of 121 people.<\/p>\n<p>To sum up, the video which is viral on social media alleging that scores of Hindu women have been raped and murdered by Muslims in Bangladesh, actually shows footage of the aftermath of a tragic stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, India, on July 2, 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The story uses only screenshots in view of the graphic nature of the video being fact-checked.
