Within hours, media organisations as well as social media users started sharing a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/media-channels-shows-pakistan-video-visuals-as-delhi-earthquake-on-17th-feb\/\">CCTV clip from Pakistan<\/a> claiming it to be a frightening video depicting the New Delhi earthquake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On February 17 itself, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/g9I9_e86KO4?si=wxpWrnU5JXZZ2HLg\">Republic World<\/a> published a short video on its YouTube channel with the caption &#8216;Delhi-NCR earthquake: First videos shared by residents are quite disturbing&#8217;. This video contains several different clips. In one of them, water is seen spilling out of a bathtub due to the effects of the earthquake. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/8UT76\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g9I9_e86KO4?si=vK7BkESTMfN0Oylx]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">X-user <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/theinformant_x\/status\/1891294766328938838?t=298pSH68REylvRED3IwXog&amp;s=19\">@theinformant_x<\/a>, which claims to be an &#8220;independent and libertarian journalist covering global news&#8221;, shared three videos with a screenshot of a report of the National Center for Seismology on the earthquake. The video of water spilling out of a bathtub was one of them. So was the CCTV footage from Pakistan mentioned above, which Alt News has already debunked. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/gFOsk\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u2757\ufe0f\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf3 &#8211; Strong tremors were felt in Delhi this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The shaking continued for several seconds, causing widespread panic as people rushed out of their homes.<\/p>\n<p>The earthquake was measured at a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located in Delhi. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZSSAAOk3sm\">pic.twitter.com\/ZSSAAOk3sm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udddeThe Informant (@theinformant_x) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theinformant_x\/status\/1891294766328938838?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><b>Fact Check<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alt News performed a reverse image search using frames taken from the short video by Republic World. We found a video of water gushing out of a bathtub uploaded on a YouTube channel called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yOjhE47ZrcA?si=yb4FSXWUu1DA28LL\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RM Video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on February 15, 2021. It is also mentioned that \u201cwater was seen gushing out of the bathtub due to shaking during the earthquake in Japan\u201d. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/varchive\/yOjhE47ZrcA\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/IMG_20250219_022604-1024x867.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This makes it evident that the video of the bathtub is at least four-year old and has no connection with the recent earthquake in Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Further investigation led us to find that the bathtub video was not the only one Republic ran falsely in its reports on the February 17 Delhi quake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The video of a ceiling fan swaying during a quake &#8212; anther clip that Republic ran &#8212; was found on the X timeline of <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AHindinews\/status\/1825710443140362261?t=cqd7Pw7B-rqFuCpz55S4yA&amp;s=19\">ANI Hindi News<\/a>. It was shared on August 20, 2024. The caption says that this is a video showing a 4.9-magnitude earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/D9SFR\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/IMG_20250219_022402-1024x759.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition, the video of the chandelier shaking, again part of Republic&#8217;s Delhi quake reportage, was shared by <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ANI\/status\/1876449380259320069?t=rbQDsB05zd2hDfgr433MpA&amp;s=19\">ANI (Asian News International)<\/a> on X on January 7, 2025 when it reported on tremors were felt in Sheohar, Bihar, during a 7.1-intensity earthquake. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostarchive.org\/archive\/jrrFG\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/hindi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/sites\/2\/2025\/02\/IMG_20250219_022534-1024x732.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tv9hindi.com\/state\/bihar\/earthquake-with-a-magnitude-of-4-0-on-the-richter-scale-hit-siwan-bihar-3122830.html\">TV9 Bharatvarsh<\/a> also published a report on the Delhi earthquake and used a screenshot of the chandelier video as an image from an earthquake in Bihar. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/BvYiO\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archived link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To sum up, news channel Republic World falsely ran at least three unrelated videos in its reportage of the February 17 New Delhi earthquake.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 4.0-magnitude earthquake shook New Delhi at 5:36 am on February 17.
