After taking down the video of rodents inside the hospital, the news agency shared a statement from the hospital super regarding action taken in this matter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disturbing video footage depicting rats roaming freely near patients&#8217; beds and on the hospital floor at the Autonomus State Medical College and Babu Ishwar Sharan Hospital in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, went viral on social media on January 14 and 15. The facility is commonly referred to as Gonda medical college.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>India Today shared a video in which dozens of rats could be seen crawling on oxygen pipes near the heads of patients lying inside a ward. The video was accompanied by the following caption: &#8220;#WATCH | Gonda, UP | Rats seen roaming in patient ward in Autonomous State Medical College and Babu Ishwar Sharan Hospital in Gonda.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The deleted video can be watched here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Video shared by ANI which was later retracted\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1154632056?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"480\" height=\"560\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Amid the outrage over the state of healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, ANI deleted the video shortly afterwards and shared <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a statement from Dr DN Singh, the superintendent of a government-run medical college, at 6:24 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Singh mentioned that hospital authorities had formed a committee in response to a viral video showing rats roaming in the hospital wards. Based on the committee\u2019s findings which will be submitted within 48 hours, further action will be taken. We will update this report as and when we get a response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Journalistic integrity demands that deleting a report be accompanied by an explanation, more so when the said report demands accountability from authorities or subjects a government to public scrutiny. When a report is deleted without explanation, readers are left to speculate about possible motives \u2014 an error, pressure, bias, or censorship \u2014 which eventually erodes public trust in the media.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that ANI has removed a video that could provoke criticism of the government.
