Beloved of leftists, he has been placed in ISIS directly from JNU. He has sent his wishes to Rahul ji and Kejri sir ji from Syria (translation)&#8221;<\/em>, says the message. The photograph claims to show Najeeb, who is supposedly in the centre of the photo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30972\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_isis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_isis.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_isis-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alt News has already debunked this claim twice earlier. This time, the rumour started circulating after a tweet by Najeeb&#8217;s mother addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inquiring about her missing son.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">If you are a chowkidar then tell me<br \/>\nwhere is my son Najeeb ?<\/p>\n<p>Why Abvp goons not arrested ?<br \/>\nWhy three toped agencies failed to find my son ? <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WhereIsNajeeb?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WhereIsNajeeb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5GjtKSTIDh\">https:\/\/t.co\/5GjtKSTIDh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Fatima Nafis (@FatimaNafis1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FatimaNafis1\/status\/1106869917805092864?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 16, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Fake news in circulation since 2018<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>That Najeeb Ahmed has joined the ISIS is a rumour which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/despite-clarification-rumour-najeeb-joining-isis-continues-circulate-social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">circulating since early 2018<\/a>. In August 2017, a student of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news18.com\/news\/india\/23-year-old-man-who-went-missing-from-kerala-may-have-joined-islamic-state-1524629.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gone missing<\/a> and was suspected to have joined the ISIS, investigators had concluded on the basis of text messages the 23-year old had sent to his family before he went missing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30974\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_news18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"544\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_news18.jpg 602w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_news18-300x271.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So as it turned out, news of a Najeeb from VIT, Vellore who was suspected to have joined the ISIS was conflated, deliberately or otherwise, with the disappearance of JNU&#8217;s Najeeb Ahmed, and shared widely on social media platforms and WhatsApp. In the past, BJP leaders such as Ram Madhav and Swapan Dasgupta have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/swapan-dasgupta-ram-madhav-propagate-false-information-jnu-student-najeeb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fallen prey<\/a> to this misinformation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30977\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/swapan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/swapan.jpg 577w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/swapan-300x270.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Misreporting by <em>Times of India<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In March 2017, Times of India published an unverified story, according to which &#8216;sources&#8217; had told the newspaper that JNU&#8217;s Najeeb Ahmed was an ISIS sympathiser, revealed by his browsing history. The report claimed that according to police sources, Najeeb used to watch videos of ISIS on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30981\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_toi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_toi.jpg 318w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/03\/najeeb_toi-137x300.jpg 137w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;report&#8217; was picked up and relayed by multiple news organisations, before Delhi Police confirmed that the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/toi-declared-najeeb-isis-sympathizer-page-1-75-word-retraction-news-fake-page-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> news was bogus<\/a>&#8211; there was no truth to the report that Najeeb had viewed pro-ISIS videos.<\/p>\n<h2>What is the origin of the viral photo?<\/h2>\n<p>Alt News reverse searched the image and discovered that the photograph of ISIS fighters used along with the message claiming Najeeb has joined ISIS, was clicked in the year 2015 by Reuters.
