The post was captioned &#8220;Point blank shot.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"BJP Assam video\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1162971458?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1290\" height=\"968\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The video, which is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/scrolling-through-assam-bjps-x-handle-an-exhibition-of-hate-xenophobia-anti-muslim-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest in line of a series of vicious anti-Muslim propaganda posts<\/a> shared by Assam BJP, immediately drew widespread condemnation. As of now, it is no longer available on the platform. It is not clear whether the party itself took it down or the platform, i.e., X, did it. Sarma recently revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/scroll.in\/latest\/1089696\/dont-need-treaty-with-bangladesh-to-push-back-undocumented-migrants-says-assam-cm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how his state had &#8216;pushed back&#8217; more than 2,000 undocumented migrants<\/a> into Bangladesh, within a space of three months. Late last month, the chief minister launched a communal tirade targeting \u201cMiya Muslims\u201d, which sparked an outrage across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHimanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP are directly against the Miya,\u201d the Assam chief minister proclaimed during a conversation with journalists on January 27. During the three-minute exchange, Sarma urged the people of his state to \u201cgive the Miya trouble\u201d and \u201cpractise the politics of polarization\u201d. \u201cIf you take a rickshaw and the fare is Rs 5, give Rs 4. Only if they suffer will they leave Assam,\u201d the chief minister said.<\/p>\n<p>After a <a href=\"https:\/\/thewire.in\/communalism\/police-complaint-over-himanta-biswa-sarma-divisive-remarks-miya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police complaint had been filed<\/a> by activist Harsh Mander against Sarma at Hauz Khas police station in Delhi, Sarma tried to defend his hateful remarks stating that he was referring to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/himantas-communal-tirade-against-miya-muslims-police-complaint-filed-defiant-assam-cm-cites-sc-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Himanta\u2019s communal tirade against Miya Muslims: Police complaint filed, defiant Assam CM cites SC ruling<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In May last year, the Himanta-led Cabinet brought in a scheme to give gun licenses to \u2018indigenous people\u2019 living in Muslim-majority areas. Justifying the move,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assamtribune.com\/assam\/gun-is-essential-in-vulnerable-areas-himanta-biswa-sarma-on-arms-license-policy-1587900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sarma said<\/a>, \u201cA gun is essential. Without a gun, how will you live in places like South Salmara and Mankachar? You will understand when you go there\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>About\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/southsalmaramankachar.assam.gov.in\/about-district\/district-glance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">95% of the population<\/a>\u00a0in the Salmara-Mankachar district are Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>Sarma&#8217;s vituperative speeches have been complemented by social media posts by the state unit of the BJP. The &#8216;shot point blank&#8217; video is not the only example of that. Take, for example, the state-sanctioned normalisation of derogatory terms, like &#8220;paaijan&#8221;, a portmanteau of &#8220;Pakistan&#8221; and &#8220;bhaijaan&#8221; that is regularly used to refer to Opposition leader and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.<\/p>\n<p>On September 15, Assam BJP shared a video on X, which sought to offer a glimpse of \u201cAssam without BJP\u201d. The clip, which depicted \u00a0Muslim \u201cinfiltrators\u201d entering the state and acquiring government land, and also showed men in skull caps, beards and lungis chopping beef by the roadside and Muslim men and burqa-clad women crowding the state\u2019s tea estates and public spaces, sparked massive outrage and as eventually removed from the platform.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-second ad ended with the warning that without the BJP, Assam would have a 90% Muslim population. \u201cChoose your vote carefully,\u201d it said.
