Many twitter users pointed out that it is Navreh, and not Nauroz. Others insisted there was nothing wrong in the greeting as Navreh is also known as Nauroz. The greeting was a subject of much discussion and much trolling.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Nauroz Mubarak to all my Kashmiri sisters and brothers!! How sweet are mom\u2019s? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Lix2hCVS8f\">pic.twitter.com\/Lix2hCVS8f<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Priyanka Gandhi Vadra (@priyankagandhi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/priyankagandhi\/status\/1114372522940747778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Republic TV<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicworld.com\/india-news\/general-news\/navreh-not-nauroz-say-netizens-to-priyanka-gandhi-vadra-after-she-sends-in-parsi-new-year-wishes-to-kashmiri-pandits\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a> that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had made a Twitter gaffe and sent Parsi new year greetings to Kashmiri Pandits. \u201c<em>Priyanka Gandhi invents a new spelling, or did she invent a new festival in confusion?<\/em>\u201d asked right-wing blog, <em>OpIndia<\/em> attributing her confusion to her mixed Kashmiri-Parsi roots. Saying, &#8220;<em>she was instantly called out for her ignorance<\/em>&#8220;, the media house quoting Pakistani Canadian author Tarek Fatah as the first example. Fatah&#8217;s tweet correcting Vadra was shared over 4,300 times.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dear <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/priyankagandhi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PriyankaGandhi<\/a>, &#39;Nauroz&#39; was celebrated last month. The Kashmiri new year&#39;s day being  celebrated today is &#39;Navreh&#39;. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DDEUMxUkkU\">https:\/\/t.co\/DDEUMxUkkU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Tarek Fatah (@TarekFatah) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TarekFatah\/status\/1114390992537489408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A few Kashmiri Pandits pointed out that Navreh is also known as Nauroz in Delhi\/UP but their voice was lost in the noise of mocking Vadra\u2019s ignorance about her festivals. So did Priyanka Gandhi Vadra make a gaffe in her greeting? Let us find out..<\/p>\n<h2>Navreh or Nauroz?<\/h2>\n<p>Alt News found that Nauroz was a perfectly acceptable form of greeting for Kashmiri new year, used by Kashmiris themselves. Here is the evidence for the same:<\/p>\n<p>1. Twitter user Vaibhav Kaul shared a 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/gif6t5l5.dreamwp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2018\/05\/march18.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">newsletter<\/a> of the Kashmiri Pandit Association of Delhi, wishing its readers &#8220;NAUROZ MUBARAK&#8221;. An article in Kashmiri Pandit Association, Delhi, newsletter of 2015 had an explanation of the Navreh \/ Nauroz confusion. According to an <a href=\"http:\/\/kpadelhi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2015\/12\/December-Biradari-11-12-15-Low.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> in the newsletter, the term \u201cNauroz\u201d is used by Kashmiri Pandit families that migrated to the plains before 1900. The <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.in\/books?id=6DJjDwAAQBAJ&#038;pg=PT603&#038;dq=nauroz+kashmiri&#038;hl=en&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=0ahUKEwj9pb-C7b3hAhXEV98KHTfJCDcQ6AEIKDAA#v=onepage&#038;q=nauroz%20kashmiri&#038;f=false\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">book<\/a>, \u201c<em>Two alone, two together<\/em>\u201d which is a collection of letters between Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru in the period from 1922-1964 has several references to \u201cNauroz\u201d. Nauroz seems to be the commonly used term by Pandits who had settled in Delhi\/UP in early 20th century whereas Navreh is more common among Pandits who are in Kashmir or moved out of Kashmir at a later date. In Priyanka Gandhi Vadra\u2019s family like many other families like hers, Nauroz seems to be the term used.
