Facebook user Vikram Singh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/395619261302771\/permalink\/406128386918525\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared<\/a> this video with a similar narrative.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-44296\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/08\/2019-08-22-17_43_10-Settings.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/08\/2019-08-22-17_43_10-Settings.jpg 599w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/08\/2019-08-22-17_43_10-Settings-230x300.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Fact-check<\/h2>\n<p>Alt News looked at multiple news reports related to incidents where people mistaken for child-kidnappers were caught in Uttar Pradesh. We found that this woman was held hostage by a mob in Dimrauni village of UP\u2019s Jhansi district. A YouTube Channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7cZ_adcUNGo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Bharat News 24 Live<\/em><\/a> claimed that the woman was a child-lifter. The reporter in the video is speaking to the woman in Badagaon police station.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7cZ_adcUNGo\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7cZ_adcUNGo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On August 3, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amarujala.com\/uttar-pradesh\/jhansi\/child-theft-creates-panic-reaction-at-many-places-jhansi-news-jhs145068158\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Amar Ujala<\/em><\/a> reported that the woman held captive by a mob in Dimrauni village over suspicion of her being child-kidnapper was later handed over to the police. Contrary to the above report, <em>Amar Ujala&#8217;s<\/em> report said that the police has declared her to be mentally ill.<\/p>\n<p>Alt News contacted Badagaon police station to confirm the incident and inquire about its status. We were informed that the incident is at least 15-20 days old and the woman was a mentally-challenged person. The villagers had mistaken her for being a child-lifter. SI RK Pandey said, <em>&#8220;we have not arrested any child-kidnapper recently.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"c-virtual_list__item\" role=\"listitem\">\n<div class=\"c-message c-message--light c-message--adjacent\" role=\"document\" data-qa=\"message_container\" data-qa-placeholder=\"false\">\n<div class=\"c-message__content c-message__content--feature_sonic_inputs\" data-qa=\"message_content\"><span class=\"c-message__body\" dir=\"auto\" data-qa=\"message-text\">In conclusion, a video of a mentally-challenged woman who was taken hostage by a mob in UP\u2019s Jhansi district was shared on social media with the narrative that a Rohingya woman was confessing abducting children. <\/span>Earlier as well, a video of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/mentally-challenged-man-beaten-on-false-child-lifting-suspicions-video-viral-to-stoke-rumours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mentally-ill<\/a> man who was held captive in a similar fashion was circulated on social media to fuel rampant rumours about child-kidnappers on a prowl across India.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two videos of a woman held hostage by a mob which is accusing her of child-lifting is viral on social media.
