Facebook user Jitesh Jadeja posted<\/a> a set of images with a message claiming that they depict a leopard attack in Polo forest, Gujarat, where a boy was killed. Among the photographs is one which shows a half-eaten carcass with upper body parts intact. “\u0aaa\u0acb\u0ab3\u0aa8\u0abe \u0a9c\u0a82\u0a97\u0ab2\u0aae\u0abe\u0a82 \u0aab\u0ab0\u0aa4\u0abe \u0aa6\u0abf\u0aaa\u0aa1\u0abe \u0a8f \u0a85\u0ac7\u0a95 \u0a9b\u0acb\u0a95\u0ab0\u0abe \u0aa8\u0ac7 \u0aab\u0abe\u0aa1\u0ac0 \u0a96\u0abe\u0aa7\u0acb”,\u00a0<\/em>reads the Gujarati text circulating with the images. It is also being shared on WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

Old incident from Maharastra<\/h2>\n

With a reverse image search on Google, we found a 2018 tweet which said that these images were circulating with the rumour that the incident took place in Aarey but it actually took place in Chiplun, Maharastra.<\/p>\n

A keyword search on Google revealed that the incident took place near Khadpoli MIDC in Chiplur city of Maharastra where at least two people were severely injured in a leopard attack. It’s an eight-month-old incident. We found a report by Marathi news outlet Sakal<\/em><\/a> on December 11, 2018, which carried two of the photographs that are currently viral. This leopard got stuck in a trap-cage meant for wild boars. People had called forest officials seeing the leopard trapped in the cage but when the officials tried to put a bigger cage over the leopard, the animal managed to escape and went on a rampage.<\/p>\n
