The accompanying social media claim is false. The video is not related to violation of traffic regulations and consequent police action. Alt News took a frame from the video clip and reverse-searched it on Google. The search result threw up a link to a MyNation<\/em> report, titled ‘Karnataka: Kodagu police thrash youth for eve-teasing; video goes viral’. <\/em><\/p>\n

The report<\/a>, containing the same video clip now doing the rounds, was dated June 23, 2019. It stated that a video had gone viral showing Kodagu police thrashing two men who were accused of eve-teasing near a college in Kodagu. “The duo, who hail from Kerala’s Malappuram, had come to Kodagu in a car and were reportedly seen eve-teasing girls near a college. Virajpet residents immediately caught the duo and began to thrash them in public.\u00a0Later, they were handed over to the Virajpet police where they were seen thrashing the youth for their behaviour in public. The video of them beating up the youths went viral on social media on Saturday (June 22) evening.”<\/em>, the report stated.<\/p>\n

It may be noted that the video showing policemen thrashing a person, is from Kodagu, Karnataka and pertains to an eve-teasing case.
