It soon went viral on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-46223\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"719\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto4.png 719w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto4-300x211.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>MEDIA REPORTS ON THE ACCIDENT<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>Mirror Now<\/em>, the English news channel of the Bennett Coleman group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesnownews.com\/mirror-now\/crime\/article\/video-bengaluru-drunk-rto-inspector-rams-vehicle-into-autorickshaw-auto-driver-battling-for-life\/487710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported the same day<\/a> with the headline, <em>&#8216;Drunk RTO inspector rams vehicle into autorickshaw; auto driver battling for life&#8217;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-46199\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"881\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto1.jpg 881w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto1-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto1-768x535.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 881px) 100vw, 881px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The article states,<em> &#8220;In a case reported from Bengaluru, a drunk Regional Transport Office (RTO) Inspector knocked a parked autorickshaw after which the driver has suffered severe injuries and is battling for life in the hospital. The incident raised several questions about the department&#8217;s responsibilities, as the inspector was found in an inebriated state during his duty hours.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dVIuqEVEWvo&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;fbclid=IwAR25SRouZi1owvTmMcv48a0OTw0JJ4N0j9BLqF_Mwz8vUCnBSi9wedDWvBk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em> News9<\/em><\/a>, a regional news channel based in Karnataka, broadcast news of the accident with the words, &#8216;Drunk RTO inspector rams car into auto&#8217; and &#8216;Drunk driving menace&#8217;; the anchor stating, <em>&#8220;The man has been identified as Manjunath, who was drunk on duty. The RTO inspector has been detained by the electronic city traffic police.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>The video of the broadcast is posted below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Drunk RTO inspector rams car in to auto\" width=\"1290\" height=\"968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dVIuqEVEWvo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The reports also stated that auto-rickshaw drivers had staged a protest in the locality after the accident. A report by <a href=\"https:\/\/newsable.asianetnews.com\/video\/news\/drunk-rto-inspector-knocks-down-auto-protest-erupts-in-bengaluru-hosur-road-pxr6pr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Asianet<\/em><\/a>, which was titled,<em> &#8216;\u201cDrunk\u201d RTO inspector knocks down auto, protest erupts in Bengaluru\u2019s Hosur road&#8217;,\u00a0<\/em>published a day after the accident, ironically stated that no trace of alcohol was found on the accused, who was subjected to an alcometer by the traffic police.<\/p>\n<p>Other Kannada media entities which reported that the RTO inspector was drunk, included <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/suvarnanewstv\/status\/1172164545734819841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Suvarna News<\/em><\/a> (part of <em>Asianet News<\/em> network) and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/publictvnews\/status\/1172148674270396417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Public Tv News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-46244\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"538\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto7.jpg 538w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto7-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/09\/rto7-300x298.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>FACT CHECK: NOT A CASE OF DRUNK DRIVING<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Alt News contacted the electronic city traffic police station, Bengaluru who confirmed that news of the accused being drunk is false. <em>&#8220;The person was not under the influence of alcohol. A breath analyzer was used by the traffic police to determine this. However, those gathered at the spot had insisted that a proper test be conducted. So we arranged for a detailed medical examination to be conducted at a hospital. It emerged that <strong>he was suffering from low blood pressure. This was not a case of drunk driving<\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/cities\/bangalore\/rto-inspector-knocks-down-autorickshaw\/article29401472.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Hindu<\/em><\/a> states that the medical report of Manjunath had revealed that he was not drunk, but under medication. In the latest development, RTO inspector Manjunath <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100001703795019\/posts\/2275647029168735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed away<\/a> on September 13, a day after the accident. This was confirmed to us by electronic city traffic police.
