The state government has gone on a major demolition drive&#8221;.\u00a0<\/em>Along with the video, the user tweeted a caption that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoSlowplz\/status\/1175652671438675968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reads<\/a>, <em>&#8220;Modi demolished 50 Temples. To give the land to Ambani&#8217;s.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>The video has been retweeted more than 500 times so far.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Modi demolished 50 Temples.<br \/>\nTo give the land to Ambani&#8217;s. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RAbAqYG6CM\">pic.twitter.com\/RAbAqYG6CM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Retweet Sarkar \ud83d\udcaf (@GoSlowplz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GoSlowplz\/status\/1175652671438675968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 22, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Fact-check<\/h2>\n<p>With a keyword search on YouTube, Alt News found that news report is at least 10 years old and published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=u6CabCo3YUA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>NDTV<\/em><\/a>. The anchor introduces the report saying, <em>&#8220;Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has a new campaign, to demolish illegal constructions, including temples. The new demolitions have sparked off outrage in the Sangh Pariwar and tra<\/em>ditional Modi supporters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Modi&#039;s demolition drive erases temples\" width=\"1290\" height=\"968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/u6CabCo3YUA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The November 19, 2008 report talks about the demolition of over 50 temples in the state capital Gandhinagar. According to a statement given by then Collector of Gandhinagar Sanjeev Kumar, the demolition drive targeted all illegal construction and not just religious ones. It has been mischievously clipped to edit out the context and important information which would otherwise suggest that it was during the time when Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat.<\/p>\n<p>However, subsequent reports by<em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/latest-headlines\/story\/under-vhp-pressure-modi-puts-temple-demolition-on-hold-33793-2008-11-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">India Today<\/a><\/em> from November 21, 2008 stated, <em>&#8220;Under pressure from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has put on hold the demolition drive against unauthorised temples in the state capital of Gandhinagar.&#8221;<\/em> The decision reportedly came after then CM&#8217;s meeting with Ashok Singhal, who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraphindia.com\/india\/modi-halts-temple-demolition\/cid\/524737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">dubbed<\/a> him &#8220;Aurangzeb&#8221; for his temple-razing drive.<\/p>\n<p>A video of a 10-year-old news report on the demolition drive taken by the BJP-led state government in Gujarat was mischievously clipped to remove the context and shared on social media with an attempt to portray it as a recent decision of the central government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Twitter user who goes by the name Retweet Sarkar posted a video of a news report which talked about alleged demolition of 50 temples under the Modi regime.
