It states that the Rs.2000 note will be withdrawn by the RBI and in its place, new Rs1000 currency note will be released on January 1, 2020. In addition, the message states that the RBI is taking back the existing Rs 2000 notes, but will only do so till October 10, after which it will not be possible to exchange the Rs 2000 notes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48232\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note1.png 395w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note1-214x300.png 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The message has also been circulating on WhatsApp and was sent to us for verification on the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.altnews&amp;hl=en_IN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official Alt News application<\/a>. It may be noted that the Rs 2000 currency note was introduced after the Central government had announced demonetization in November 2016, invalidating the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48233\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"511\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note2.png 511w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note2-300x179.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 511px) 100vw, 511px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The same information was broadcasted by the channel <em>Suvarna News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-48436\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note4-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note4.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/10\/note4-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>FACT CHECK: NO SUCH MOVE BY RBI<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Alt News&#8217;s fact-check found that the message is a hoax. There has been no such announcement from the Reserve Bank of India. Any communication put forward by the RBI is published on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbi.org.in\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official website<\/a> of the Central Bank, where no such notification has been put up.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>&#8220;THESE ARE RUMOURS&#8221;: RBI<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Alt News contacted the Reserve Bank of India for clarification. Department of Communication, RBI stated, <em>&#8220;These are all rumours. There has been no such notification (by the RBI). Please refer to the website for all communication&#8221;.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The claim that the RBI is going to withdraw the Rs.2000 note is absolutely false. This is only the latest instance of misinformation targeting the RBI.
