According to a report in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/other-states\/roads-leading-to-hazratbal-shrine-sealed-normal-life-disrupted-in-kashmir\/article29936549.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hindu<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>by Kashmiri journalist Peerzada Ashiq,\u00a0<em>&#8220;All entry points to the mosque, including Habak area on the outskirts of the city and the Rainawari and Sadrabal areas in the old city, were closed for traffic. The security forces started spreading concertina wires on the streets and used mobile bunkers to block several stretches on Saturday as part of an exercise to impose restrictions.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A resident attending the prayers since 1990 told the media outlet,<em> &#8220;It is the first time in my living memory that such a thin attendance of worshippers was observed on the auspicious occasion in Kashmir. Only locals living in nearby areas turned up for the night-long prayers&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Similar news emerged from other media outlets, including <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/india\/story\/roads-leading-to-hazratbal-shrine-sealed-normal-life-disrupted-in-kashmir-1617596-2019-11-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PTI<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>which said,\u00a0<em>&#8220;Authorities on Sunday sealed all roads leading to the Hazratbal Shrine here as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of the Supreme Court ruling in the Ayodhya case and Eid-Milad-un-Nabi, officials said.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/kashmirobserver.net\/2019\/11\/09\/roads-leading-to-hazratbal-shrine-closed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Local reports<\/a> carried similar accounts of restrictions imposed to prevent large gatherings.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50894 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/11\/a6986f96-b7ea-439a-86aa-fd9ae5047538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"828\" height=\"558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/11\/a6986f96-b7ea-439a-86aa-fd9ae5047538.png 828w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/11\/a6986f96-b7ea-439a-86aa-fd9ae5047538-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/11\/a6986f96-b7ea-439a-86aa-fd9ae5047538-768x518.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>NO RESTRICTIONS, CLAIM A SECTION OF THE MEDIA<\/h2>\n<p>However, a section of the media circulated a video to counter the claim of restrictions. Among the firsts was <em>Republic TV&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdityaRajKaul\/status\/1193536980325298178?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aditya Raj Kaul<\/a> who asserted that thousands had gathered in the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, the same clip was shared by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AshishSinghLIVE\/status\/1193929207329542145\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ashish Singh<\/a> of\u00a0<em>ABP News,\u00a0<\/em>journalist <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AartiTikoo\/status\/1193928070677139456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aarti Tikoo Singh<\/a> and\u00a0<em>Doordarshan.\u00a0<\/em>News agency\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aninews.in\/news\/world\/asia\/pakistan-lies-exposed-thousands-pray-at-hazratbal-shrine-on-milad-un-nabi20191111232559\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>ANI<\/em><\/a> also asserted that thousands had gathered at the shrine.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Thousands prayed at Hazratbal and holy Relic Moi-e-Muqaddas was displayed as per tradition at holy Hazratbal shrine in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Srinagar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Srinagar<\/a>. However, this is untrue. News organisations that carried reports on Eid Milad wrote that prayers were &#8220;restricted&#8221;, not banned.<\/p>\n<p>Take for instance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tribuneindia.com\/news\/jammu-kashmir\/restrictions-around-hazratbal-shrine-to-prevent-big-congregation-on-eid-milad-eve\/858695.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this article<\/a> in <em>The Tribune\u00a0<\/em>which said, <em>&#8220;Restrictions around Hazratbal shrine to prevent big congregation on Eid Milad eve.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quoting a Kashmiri journalist,\u00a0<em>NDTV&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>Nidhi Razdan also used the word &#8220;restricted&#8221;. However, in a reply to the journalist, Aarti Tikoo Singh wrote, <em>&#8220;A section of Indian media ran a disinformation campaign that prayers were not allowed by Indian security forces at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar on Eid Milad yesterday.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A section of Indian media ran a disinformation campaign that prayers were not allowed by Indian security forces at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar on Eid Milad yesterday. Photojournalist Sheikh Yamin put the strength of the gathering at around 400-500 people at 2:30 PM, which according to him was the peak time. <em>&#8220;The gathering is usually in thousands but very few people came because of the blockade. Most people who turned up hailed from surrounding areas. The security personnel stopped vehicles, people on foot were able to enter,&#8221; <\/em>Yamin added.<\/p>\n<p>Yamin shared visuals from the day which show a scattered gathering among security personnel. Very few people had turned up in the morning. When photographers went at 1 PM, a few people from neighbouring areas had turned up. There were no restrictions on offering prayers however because of the blockade many were unable to come.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The relic is displayed not only on the occasion of Eid Milad but also on Mehraj-ul-Alam, which is believed to be the night when the Prophet Muhammad ascended to the highest levels of Heavens. This year the festival was observed in April. The photo-montage below is a comparison of the strength of the gathering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettyimages.in\/detail\/news-photo\/kashmiri-muslim-devotees-seen-raising-their-hands-while-news-photo\/1136489502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">then<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Kashmir_Monitor\/status\/1193812850025934848?s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now<\/a> at the same location. The white structures visible in both images are tents. They are marked in red and yellow colours. In the April 2019 image, one of the tents in inflated. Marked in green is a raised platform where people can be seen standing. While most reports stated the same, a few organisations and journalists shared a video to portray normalcy.
