This information about the discontinuation of the Rs.2000 note was earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/no-rbi-is-not-going-to-discontinue-rs-2000-currency-notes-false-message-viral\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fact-checked<\/a>\u00a0by Alt News and found to be untrue. There has been no such announcement by the RBI. Any communication put forward by the RBI is published on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbi.org.in\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official website<\/a> of the Central Bank, where no such notification is present.\u00a0Moreover, the same was confirmed to Alt News by the Department of Communication, RBI.<\/p>\n<p>The same false information was earlier circulated in the form of a morphed screenshot of a broadcast by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/screenshots-of-aaj-tak-fact-check-shared-to-claim-rbi-has-scrapped-rs-2000-note\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Aaj Tak<\/em><\/a> channel.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of State for Finance &amp; Corporate Affairs, stated in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on December 3 that there is no government proposal to phase out Rs,2000 notes.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Citing the Annual Report of the Reserved Bank of India, the Minister further stated that the share of value of\u00a0<span class=\"webrupee\">\u20b9<\/span>2,000 denomination banknotes in circulation (\u00a0<span class=\"webrupee\">\u20b9<\/span>6,582 billion) to the value of total notes in circulation (\u00a0<span class=\"webrupee\">\u20b9<\/span>21,109 billion) was 31.18%, as on 31.03.2019,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>reported\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/politics\/policy\/no-proposal-to-stop-circulation-of-rs-2-000-currency-notes-government-11575375669359.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Livemint<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-52692 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/12\/a7959e53-9563-46db-a2e2-bec3969c4db6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"728\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/12\/a7959e53-9563-46db-a2e2-bec3969c4db6.png 684w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2019\/12\/a7959e53-9563-46db-a2e2-bec3969c4db6-282x300.png 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the claim that a new Rs.1000 note is to be introduced by the Central bank, too is false.
