Alt News has received multiple verification requests of the claim on its official mobile application. The text on the photograph reads,\u00a0“Delhi Police<\/span> stopped<\/span> this man<\/span> from<\/span> entering<\/span> JNU<\/span>, saying: “There is a riot going on inside the campus. Parents and guardians cannot visit.” The man replied: “But I’m a <\/span>JNU<\/span> student.<\/span>“<\/em><\/p>\n

FACT-CHECK<\/h2>\n

The man in the photograph is not a JNU student but writer and Dalit rights activist from Telangana, professor Kancha Ilaiah<\/a>. He is the former director of the Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad and holds a PhD in Buddhism.<\/p>\n

Speaking with\u00a0India Today<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Ilaiah confirmed that the viral photograph is his and he never studied in JNU. The scholar also said that he will file a complaint against the post.<\/p>\n
