According to the report, 17-year-old Pooja Panika, studying in class XI, was beheaded in front of Government Girl Higher Secondary School in Kotma, a city in Anuppur district of <span class=\"js-about-item-abstr\">Madhya Pradesh<\/span>. The accused had been stalking the girl for years but &#8220;was repeatedly spurned by her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-59719 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/02\/97716bf6-fabf-45de-9d93-781612828fee.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/02\/97716bf6-fabf-45de-9d93-781612828fee.png 570w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/02\/97716bf6-fabf-45de-9d93-781612828fee-244x300.png 244w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A subsequent keyword search led us to media reports from February 23, 2018 &#8211;<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aninews.in\/news\/national\/general-news\/man-kills-class-11-student-outside-school-in-mp201802230912090003\/\">ANI<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asianage.com\/india\/crime\/230218\/mp-16-yr-old-girl-hacked-to-death-with-sword-probe-on.html\">Asian Age<\/a><\/em>,<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/crime\/story\/mp-horror-class-11-girl-beheaded-outside-school-1-suspect-detained-another-found-hanging-from-tree-1176106-2018-02-23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">India Today<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/india-news\/madhya-pradesh-jilted-man-attacks-girl-with-sword-severs-her-head\/story-YhPwPmQbLrmv4JzY0129kK.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hindustan Times<\/a>. <\/em>None of these reports mentioned that the crime had a communal angle.<\/p>\n<p>On February 24, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/bhopal\/hours-after-girls-beheading-her-friend-kills-self\/articleshow\/63050354.cms\">Times of India<\/a> (TOI)<\/em> published another report after Vijay Prajapati, a suspect in Pooja&#8217;s murder, committed suicide.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, &#8220;Police aren\u2019t sure if Vijay Prajapati killed himself out of grief after the girl\u2019s murder, or out of guilt because he was the killer.&#8221; Anuppur&#8217;s <span class=\"module__title__link\">superintendent of police (SP),<\/span> Sunil Kumar Jain, informed <em>TOI<\/em> that &#8220;Vijay was known to the girl. We are investigating all aspects, including whether he killed the girl and then committed suicide or if she was murdered by the man who was accused of harassing her in the past.\u201d\u00a0Prior to his death, the girl&#8217;s parent&#8217;s had identified Dilip Sahu as a suspect who had been arrested before for stalking Pooja.<\/p>\n<p>Alt News had a telephonic conversation with SP Jain, who is no longer posted at Anuppur. Jain said he cannot recollect the name of the man who killed Pooja. However, he added, &#8220;As per our investigation, we found that the man who committed suicide had killed Pooja with a sword. As a result, no arrests were made in this case.&#8221; When enquired if the crime had a communal angle, Jain responded, &#8220;Both the parties were Hindu.
