According to these reports, the incident took place at 34th Street in Manhattan, New York. The <em>New York Post<\/em> reported added that &#8220;neither the MTA [Metropolitian Transportation Authority] nor NYPD [New York Police Department] responded to requests for comment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The viral video was <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrJonCee\/status\/1157345942556807168?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> by <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">@MrJonCee on August 2, 2019. This video has over 17 million views. <\/span>It was also posted by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/PublicFreakout\/comments\/cl8iuq\/man_spits_on_other_man_in_nyc_and_is_hit_with_a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reddit<\/a> user ventriiloquist on August 3, 2019. The video posted by ventriiloquist was published by <em>New York Post, Daily Mail, Mirror and Atlanta Black Star.\u00a0<\/em>As per these posts, a racist white man spat on a person of colour commuting by the New York subway.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Spitting on a black man from New York is basically a death wish anyway <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CyN1lexzVc\">pic.twitter.com\/CyN1lexzVc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hi, I&#8217;m Jon (@MrJonCee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrJonCee\/status\/1157345942556807168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 2, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since the viral video is of low resolution, Alt News analysed the video uploaded by <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">@MrJonCee<\/span> and noticed that a caucasian man spat on an African American.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63122 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.49.25-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.49.25-PM.png 281w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.49.25-PM-169x300.png 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>None of the reports gives details about the persons involved in the public spat, however, the act was <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantablackstar.com\/2019\/08\/06\/video-shows-spat-upon-train-rider-punching-man-10-times-before-leaving-him-stretched-out-on-subway-platform-in-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">seemingly racist<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63124 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.29.57-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"741\" height=\"653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.29.57-PM.png 741w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/04\/Screenshot-2020-04-04-at-3.29.57-PM-300x264.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 741px) 100vw, 741px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Therefore the social media claim that a Muslim person spat on a man in a New York subway is false and misleading. Several such claims have been made amidst the pandemic which falsely target the Muslim community. Recently, a video of Mumbai police escorting an undertrial was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/coronavirus-video-of-an-undertrial-in-mumbai-falsely-viral-as-nizamuddin-markaz-attendee-spitting-at-cop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">falsely shared<\/a> as a Nizamuddin Markaz attendee spitting on a cop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0The number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19india.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">positive cases of the novel coronavirus in India<\/a>\u00a0exceeds 5,000 and more than 150 deaths have so far been reported. The government has imposed a complete restriction on movement apart from essential services to tackle the pandemic.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/map.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Globally<\/a>, more than 14 lakh confirmed cases and over 80,000 deaths have been reported. There is a sense of panic among citizens, causing them to fall for a variety of online misinformation \u2013 misleading images and videos rousing fear or medical misinformation promoting pseudoscience and invalid treatments.
