The phrases \u2018Corona Jihad\u2019 and \u2018Corona Jihadi\u2019 have been used in a derogatory manner by social media and the mainstream media to propagate the false narrative that the Muslim community is wilfully trying to spread the infection.<\/p>\n<h4>Fact-check<\/h4>\n<p>Some users on Facebook users <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100024942811655\/videos\/631144957726926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared<\/a> the video claiming it to be a mock drill. With a YouTube search with relevant keywords, we found another video of the same event posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uNFhF02ntjs&amp;feature=emb_title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>VK News<\/em><\/a> channel on April 4, 2020. The video is from UP\u2019s Sultanpur border. It was confirmed that the clip is a mock drill video.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, a video of a mock drill conducted by UP Police was shared with the false claim that police arrested people who aimed to spread coronavirus. Earlier this week, a 2015 video of a man massaging another\u2019s face was shared with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/2015-video-where-barber-is-massaging-his-customers-face-with-his-own-saliva-shared-to-falsely-target-muslim-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">communal narrative<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>The number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19india.org\/\">positive cases of the novel coronavirus in India\u00a0<\/a>exceeds 9,000 and close to 350 deaths have so far been reported. The government has imposed a complete restriction on movement apart from essential services to tackle the pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.jhu.edu\/map.html\">Globally<\/a>, more than 18 lakh confirmed cases and over 1 lakh deaths have been reported. There is a sense of panic among citizens, causing them to fall for a variety of online misinformation \u2013 misleading images and videos rousing fear or medical misinformation promoting pseudoscience and invalid treatments.
