With a keyword search on Google, Alt News found a video of the same incident posted by Mumbai Mirror<\/em><\/a> on April 3. This video shows the policemen chasing and beating men in the by-lanes of Vasai Koliwada area of Mumbai. Thus, the video is not related to the curfew imposed in Behrampura area.<\/p>\n

“Nine persons were booked by the Vasai police after they allegedly attacked a team of police and civic officials who had gone to conduct tests on them for suspected coronavirus infection, in a slum cluster in the area on Thursday.” stated<\/a> a report by the media outlet.<\/p>\n

A group of guests from Maharastra’s Mumbra had visited the residence of Azhar Khan in Vasai Koliwada on the afternoon of April 2 and defied lockdown rules. Vasai police suspected that this group of 8-9 men could have been infected with coronavirus as they were informed that they had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in New Delhi and the police didn’t want to take any chances.<\/p>\n

A team of local policemen and civic staff went to Khan’s residence to conduct tests on the guests. During the test, none of them was found symptomatic for the viral infection. While the police was returning with the civic team, Khan and his guests reportedly started bursting firecrackers. The police went back and asked them not to indulge in such activities as it was in defiance of social distancing norms. According to a statement by SP Gaurav Singh to the Mumbai Mirror,<\/em> Khan and his guests started pushing the policemen and asking them to vacate the place. Later, the group became aggressive. While the police had to resort to lathi-charge in order to disperse the group, residents of the locality captured the incident on camera. Khan and eight of his guests were booked under Sections 188, 353 and 289 of the Indian Penal Code along with the provisions under the Disaster Management Act 2005. The SP also informed that Khan has a criminal past.<\/p>\n
