An audio clip of 4:46 minutes is doing the rounds on messaging applications like WhatsApp. A man can be heard talking about the lack of representation of the Muslim community in the media and the prevalence of pliant media in this era of corporate-driven news. In the clip, the person criticises the Muslim community for not taking the effort to develop and invest in independent media which would help raise their voice. He then goes on to propose the idea that the Muslim community should take up matters in their own hands and try to find solutions for their problems through technology and technological means. We reached out to Zuber Khan regarding the viral audio clip. In a conversation with Alt News, he said, “I wrote this post in 2017 and I am a journalist myself and I am associated with a news channel. I have studied at Jamia University. I felt bad when a friend called and asked me if I have copy-pasted the content.
