The account in its bio claimed to be employed with Indian airline GoAir as a cabin crew. Several Twitter accounts &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/erbmjha\/status\/1268268944537731072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BALA (@erbmjha)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rajput_Ramesh\/status\/1268412857923887104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ramesh Solanki (@Rajput_Ramesh)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AsYouNotWish\/status\/1268270986178117632\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sonam Mahajan (@AsYouNotWish)<\/a> &#8211; tagged the GoAir official Twitter href=\"https:\/\/www.news18.com\/news\/buzz\/goair-sacks-trainee-pilot-after-communal-posts-on-twitter-cause-outrage-2654025.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">News18<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/hindi.oneindia.com\/news\/india\/finally-goair-fires-muslim-trainee-pilot-after-hinduphobic-comments-about-sita-read-details\/articlecontent-pf285594-563764.html?utm_medium=Desktop&amp;utm_source=OI-HI&amp;utm_campaign=Left_Include\" noreferrer\">OpIndia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mynation.com\/india-news\/goair-trainee-pilot-who-had-posted-incendiary-stuff-against-hindu-deities-fired-qbg1fy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MyNation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Asif Khan&#8217;s response<\/h4>\n<p>Asif Iqbal Khan whose employment contract was terminated by GoAir on account of the viral tweets took to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=10159848199624278&amp;id=670599277&amp;notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic&amp;notif_id=1591341091119015&amp;ref=m_notif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> to tell his side of the story. In his Facebook post, he narrated how he had been falsely targeted. I trust our Judicial System and I trust my company GoAir to deal with this matter swiftly and sensitively.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Khan posted a screenshot of his personal Twitter account <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/faroutasif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@FarOutAsif<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68516\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_07_06_2020_003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_07_06_2020_003.jpg 386w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_07_06_2020_003-300x278.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Alt News investigation<\/h4>\n<p>GoAir&#8217;s reaction on this issue is shocking because even the most basic investigation would have revealed that they&#8217;re possibly firing the wrong person.<\/p>\n<h5>Facial comparison<\/h5>\n<p>Alt News was able to locate GoAir employee Asif Iqbal Khan&#8217;s Instagram account. We compared a photo retrieved from the account with the profile image of the alleged imposter account on Twitter. It is clear that the faces of the two individuals do not match.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-68515\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-1024x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-1024x636.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-768x477.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-1536x954.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-990x615.jpg 990w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled-1320x820.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/comparison-titled.jpg 1610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Further, the GoAir employee sports a beard in every picture of his dating back to about five years, while the person in the alleged imposter account is clean-shaven.<\/p>\n<h4>Brother who is not a brother<\/h4>\n<p>Using <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayback Machine<\/a> which archives selective web pages around the world, Alt News was able to retrieve certain old tweets posted by the alleged imposter account @MdAsif35534489. In one of the retrieved tweets, the account had posted the picture of an individual in Qatar airways uniform and claimed that the Qatar airways employee is his older brother.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68533\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_06_06_2020_005-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"473\" height=\"729\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_06_06_2020_005-1.jpg 473w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Selection_06_06_2020_005-1-195x300.jpg 195w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have blurred out the face in order to protect the identity of the said individual whose picture was used without his permission. We were able to get in touch with the Qatar airways employee and sent him the profile image used by the alleged imposter account. He informed Alt News that the person representing the imposter account is not his brother. We are concealing the identity of the Qatar airways employee at his request.<\/p>\n<h4>Account that earns by trending hashtags?<\/h4>\n<p>In the tweet concerning the Qatar employee, the following observations can be made.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tweet starts with a hashtag #BiasedBBTargetsAsim being trended in favour of Big Boss contestant Asim Reyaz.<\/li>\n<li>The tweet urges people to retweet (RT) the tweet if they wish to become a GoAir cabin crew. It is unlikely one could land an airline job by retweeting tweets about Big Boss contestants.<\/li>\n<li>The tweet ends with a plea for more people to follow the account so that the upcoming trends that this accounts tweets get more eyeballs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68518\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/tweet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"473\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/tweet.jpg 473w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/tweet-300x142.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/tweet-470x224.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The behaviour seen in the above tweet is typical of those who create accounts to earn a quick buck by trending Twitter hashtags. It is a common practice on Twitter for accounts to impersonate other individuals and trend hashtags and is a source of income for many Twitter users. We found many such tweets put out by this account, using Wayback Machine, which shows repeated behaviour (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200130144310\/https:\/twitter.com\/MdAsif35534489\/status\/1221453440850649088\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200113064753\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/MdAsif35534489\/status\/1212737895422803970\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200103003400\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/MdAsif35534489\/status\/1210860556652924928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3<\/a>). These were tweeted over a span of several weeks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-68519\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-1024x505.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-1024x505.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-768x379.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-990x488.jpg 990w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending-1320x651.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/hashtag-trending.jpg 1381w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Conclusion<\/h4>\n<p>In conclusion, even a basic investigation would have thrown up enough reasons for GoAir to institute a longer investigation, and not terminate the employment of their pilot in a matter of seven hours. The account with offensive tweets shows all traits of an imposter account created to make money by trending hashtags. It is unlikely that an airline pilot would need a source of income through trending hashtags.<\/p>\n<p>Hashtag trending is a full-time profession for many on Twitter, and anonymous accounts impersonating others in order to gain followers is a common practice. The same anonymous accounts are often a source of hate and misinformation. Even after years of this practice where anonymous accounts have caused untold misery for real people, Twitter is yet to find a way around this issue.<\/p>\n<p>[<strong>Update<\/strong>: GoAir has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneycontrol.com\/news\/business\/companies\/goair-revokes-termination-notice-on-employee-over-alleged-communal-comments-on-twitter-5371761.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now<\/a> revoked the termination of Asif Iqbal Khan and he is suspended pending investigation.]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Screenshots of tweets from a Twitter account with the name Asif Khan and Twitter id @MdAsif35534489 went viral on June 4.
