Incidentally, the video was also broadcast by News18 on June 29 where the anchor claimed, &#8220;Some news coming in, a Chinese CPEC engineer has been caught on camera beating up a Pakistani driver&#8230;this took place in Karachi. The driver was beaten for submitting a fake petrol bill. Below is a tweet by Zee News anchor Sudhir Chaudhary which drew over 5,000 retweets as of this writing (<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/lRFie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">archive<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">If this is true Pakistani Govt should arrest this Chinese national. The cost of the project is proving to be an expensive affair for local contractors in partner countries, including Pakistan, which are at serious risk of not being able to repay loans. CPEC <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/cpec-pakistan-china-nawaz-sharif-xi-jinping-2758111\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">aims to link<\/a> Kashgar in China\u2019s Xinjiang province to Gwadar deep seaport close to Pakistan\u2019s border with Iran.<\/p>\n<h4>Video from 2016<\/h4>\n<p>A reverse-search of the video&#8217;s keyframes on Yandex lead to several Facebook posts from 2016 where the same video was shared. According to a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/1423737014545999\/posts\/1782419238677773\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I&#8217;m Malaysian \u6211\u662f\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u4eba<\/a>, the clip depicts a racial attack on a Chinese national in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-70142 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/8ab99483-5570-46e2-b07d-52581c7837ed.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"526\" height=\"657\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/8ab99483-5570-46e2-b07d-52581c7837ed.png 526w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/8ab99483-5570-46e2-b07d-52581c7837ed-240x300.png 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Several Malaysian websites had also reported on the incident. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mynewshub.tv\/utama-sensasi\/pekerja-asing-dipukul-majikan-kerana-bermain-ketika-kerja\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mynewshub.tv<\/a>, a foreigner was beaten by his employers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-70143 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/4ed14ade-9c85-4904-88ca-d24aee8a1bd6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/4ed14ade-9c85-4904-88ca-d24aee8a1bd6.jpg 642w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/4ed14ade-9c85-4904-88ca-d24aee8a1bd6-287x300.jpg 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As per an article on <a href=\"https:\/\/m.malaysiakini.com\/news\/364517\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">malaysiakini.com<\/a> published on November 29, 2016, the police were trying to identify the perpetrator who was wearing a yellow t-shirt of Bersih 5, a pro-democracy group based in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<h4>News18 fell for a tweet by an Indian parody handle posing as a Pakistani account<\/h4>\n<p>The Twitter bio of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheZaiduLeaks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@TheZaiduLeak<\/a>s reads, &#8220;All Tweets are for fun 100% fake imaginary&#8221; yet News18 broadcast a show based on a video promoted by the account. But this is not the first time that a news channel fell for the handle. Last year, the handle had shared a still from the HBO drama series &#8216;Game of Thrones&#8217; as a Kashmiri girl with a pellet injury. This was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/times-now-tries-fact-checking-declares-indian-parody-handle-as-pakistani-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;fact-checked&#8217; by Times Now<\/a> and declared &#8216;Pakistani propaganda&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-70145 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/06\/Untitled-design-57-990x518.jpg 990w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alt News had found that after its creation, @TheZaiduLeaks was promoted by an Indian user associated with the right-wing portal rightlog.in. Our detailed investigation into the handle can be read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/times-now-tries-fact-checking-declares-indian-parody-handle-as-pakistani-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In yet another comical gaffe, News18 ran a whole show claiming that a Chinese national brutally thrashed his driver in Karachi. The channel also linked the old video from Malaysia to the CPEC project between Pakistan and China.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Update: The initial title of the article read &#8220;Chinese national beaten in Pakistan&#8221; which has been rectified. News18 took down its broadcast after this fact-check was published. A downloaded video of the same has been added to the report.
