This page claimed that the burqa-clad person was affiliated to the RSS and was trying to defame Muslims. The post was viewed over 13 lakh times (<a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/EDFsW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">archive<\/a>). Based on this, we conducted a keyword search and found a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jansatta.com\/rajya\/goa-man-wore-burka-enters-to-ladies-toilet-case-registered-under-section-419-jsp\/916671\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jansatta report<\/a> published on February 16, 2019. As per the report, the incident happened at Panaji bus stand where a burqa-clad man, 35-year old Virgil Fernandes, entered a ladies toilet. Other travellers got suspicious and caught him when he got out of the toilet. They informed the police and a case under Section 419 was registered against him. In the report, Virgil Fernandes is said to be a government employee but his motive behind the act has not been mentioned.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"520\" height=\"781\" class=\"wp-image-72880 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-6.jpeg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-6.jpeg 520w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-6-200x300.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aninews.in\/news\/national\/general-news\/burqa-clad-man-held-for-entering-ladies-toilet-in-goa20190217081926\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ANI article<\/a> published on February 17, 2019, reported that a spokesperson of Goa Police confirmed that a case under Section 419 was registered against the culprit for wronfully impersonating a Muslim woman and entering a ladies toilet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"548\" height=\"721\" class=\"wp-image-72881 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-7.jpeg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-7.jpeg 548w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/08\/word-image-7-228x300.jpeg 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The story was also covered by a few other news outlets namely &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amarujala.com\/national\/crime\/goa-police-booked-35-year-old-for-dressing-as-a-muslim-woman-in-a-burqa-and-entering-a-ladies-toilet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amar Ujala<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naidunia.com\/national-goa-man-wears-burkha-and-then-enters-in-ladies-toilet-2821795\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nai Duniya<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/goa-news\/man-booked-for-wearing-burkha-entering-ladies-toilet-in-goa-1994750\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NDTV<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/nation\/2019\/feb\/17\/man-held-for-entering-ladies-toilet-wearing-burqa-in-goa-1939913.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New Indian Express<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/goa\/man-enters-womens-loo-in-burkha-held\/articleshow\/68041713.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Times of India<\/a>. However, none of them reported that the person was affiliated with the BJP or RSS.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube channel \u2018ingoanews\u2019 uploaded a 5-minute video of the whole incident on February 16, 2019. The channel uploaded another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QBYwwybp1vw\">video<\/a> on February 22, 2019, where ladies from the Samajik Sangathan Ranragini demanded strict punishment for Fernandes. Goa police told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boomlive.in\/video-of-burqa-clad-man-viral-with-misleading-claims\/?infinitescroll=1\">Boomlive<\/a> in March 2019 that the accused was mentally unstable and undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Burqa-clad man creates tension at Panjim bus stand\" width=\"1290\" height=\"726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pWAAly_BTDQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A video from February 2019 has resurfaced recently and is being shared with baseless claims.
