Three people were killed in police firing and over 300 have been arrested for the violence.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Chaurasia&#8217;s tweet, Krishna&#8217;s derogatory painting was tweeted by NewsX anchor <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/Gth85\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shehzad Poonawallah<\/a> who tagged the DGP of Assam and the Chief Minister&#8217;s Office to take action against Hussain. The same was tweeted by <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/PGZYB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISKCON Long Island<\/a>, New York. registered an FIR against painter Hussain Akram on the basis of a complaint filed by the Hindu Jagran Manch. \u201cThe artist has, however, immediately removed the painting and has apologised,\u201d said Guwahati DCP Amitabh Sinha as quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/india-others\/fir-against-assam-artist-for-offensive-painting-of-krishna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Indian Express<\/a>. &#8220;The police were now looking for Hussain, who reportedly hails from Goalpara. It is not on display now.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Guwahati Police (@GuwahatiPol) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GuwahatiPol\/status\/1295284401211707398?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Following the police&#8217;s tweet, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DChaurasia2312\/status\/1295306693589577728\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deepak Chaurasia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IskconInc\/status\/1295290523599609856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISKCON Long Island<\/a> tweeted updates however their misleading tweets remain.<\/p>\n<h4>How certain media outlets amplified misinformation<\/h4>\n<p>Hindi news organisations <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/A69J8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amar Ujala<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.is\/IpMOZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Punjab Kesari<\/a> published the same report which said that ISKCON has demanded the arrest of Hussain Akram. Hussain was arrested in 2015 but agitated individuals on Twitter tagged the police and CMO to take action against him.
