It received close to 8,000 shares from a page &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WorldPress1\/posts\/4672317372808550\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Press<\/a>&#8216; that wrote a slightly different caption, &#8220;In Mexico, a member of Parliament removes all his clothes in Parliament during debate&#8230; &#8220;You are ashamed to see me naked, but you are not ashamed to see your people in the streets naked, barefooted, desparate, jobless and hungry after you have stolen all their money and wealth&#8221;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;he told the Parliament!! What a courageous man, this is how it should be.&#8221; The image was shared with the same caption on <a href=\"https:\/\/9gag.com\/gag\/adV4Pe2#_=_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9gag<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-78080 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/10\/b534e1e5-a17c-4197-ab35-52714eb9adee.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"807\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/10\/b534e1e5-a17c-4197-ab35-52714eb9adee.jpg 580w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/10\/b534e1e5-a17c-4197-ab35-52714eb9adee-216x300.jpg 216w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Old image shared with false claim<\/h4>\n<p>Alt News performed a reverse image search on Google and found that the image was published in 2013 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-latin-america-25350993\">BBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/SB10001424052702303932504579254013051981266\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2522868\/Mexican-congressman-takes-clothes-angry-protest-historic-energy-privatization-scuffles-break-doors-barricaded.html\">Daily Mail<\/a>. As per the reports, the man is Democratic Revolution Party MP Antonio Garcia Conejo. Alt News used Google Transcribe app to transcribe the entire speech, then translated Spanish to English on Google translate. We did not find him making the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/ATD16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement attributed on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dip. Antonio Garc\u00eda (PRD) - Reforma Energ\u00e9tica (Reservas)\" width=\"1290\" height=\"968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zh1l_laSgBQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the video, he began to strip around <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zh1l_laSgBQ?t=688\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">11:30 minutes<\/a> and said (translated via Google), &#8220;I am not ashamed because of what they are doing. They [government] took away and privatized the telecom [industry] in Mexico. Where is the profit? Railroads of Mexico are not going to achieve [profits] either. Shame on you! &#8230;. You can call it whatever you want. You are a coward! You are a coward! You are a coward!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We also looked for media reports that may have carried the statement ascribed to the MP but to no avail. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-latin-america-25350993\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC<\/a> quoted Conejo as, \u201cThis is how you\u2019re stripping the nation. Where is the benefit? I\u2019m not ashamed, what you\u2019re doing is a shame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, an image from a speech given in Mexican parliament by Democratic Revolution Party MP Antonio Garcia Conejo in 2013 has been shared as him protesting against corruption and poverty in the country.
