population. Since then, several false claims of an increase in violence against Muslims in France were shared on social media. Alt News recently debunked two such videos\u00a0 \u2014 one from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/old-video-of-muslim-woman-attacked-in-russia-shared-as-france-amid-recent-killings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russia<\/a> and another from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/video-from-brazil-viral-as-muslim-man-hits-in-self-defence-when-attacked-in-france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brazil<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Fact-check<\/h4>\n<p>Alt News performed a reverse image search on Google using the browser extension <a href=\"https:\/\/www.invid-project.eu\/tools-and-services\/invid-verification-plugin\/\">InVID<\/a> and found that the screengrabs from the video were used in multiple news reports \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/calgary-police-constable-alex-dunn-assault-trial-defence-1.5778936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canadian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a> (CBC), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2020\/10\/29\/calgary-cop-slams-handcuffed-woman-face-first-assault-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thirty-Mile Zone<\/a> (TMZ) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.de24.news\/2020\/10\/the-surveillance-footage-shows-a-calgary-police-officer-slamming-a-handcuffed-black-woman-face-first-on-the-floor.html\">DE24 News<\/a> in October.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-79533 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/11\/a59cfe56-d006-4e20-818e-76f55c25367e.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"637\" height=\"815\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/11\/a59cfe56-d006-4e20-818e-76f55c25367e.jpg 637w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2020\/11\/a59cfe56-d006-4e20-818e-76f55c25367e-234x300.jpg 234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On October 26, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/calgary-police-constable-alex-dunn-assault-trial-defence-1.5778936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBC<\/a> reported that the video is from 2017. Calgary police officer 34-year-old Alex Dunn threw 26-year-old Dalia Kafi on the ground with her hands still cuffed behind her back, according to CBC. It added that Dunn, who is in a trial for assault, testified that he thought Kafi had slipped out of her handcuffs and didn&#8217;t mean to pull her to the floor. The report also stated, &#8220;In December 2017, Dunn arrested Dalia Kafi for breaching her court-imposed curfew and obstruction of justice after she gave him a fake name when the car she&#8217;d been travelling in was pulled over by police.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another Canadian news website <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/7424620\/calgary-officer-alex-dunn-assault-trial-video\/\">Global News<\/a> reported, &#8220;Dunn was charged in 2019 at which time he was suspended with pay, but is back working with the Calgary Police Service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the reports say that the officer assaulted a Black woman, Kafi&#8217;s religion has not been specified.<\/p>\n<section id=\"inread-wrapper-id-37424840\"><\/section>\n<p>A video from 2017 from Canada, which was revived in 2020, has been shared on the Indian social media ecosystem with the false claim that a Muslim woman was assaulted by a French police officer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A video of a policeman assaulting a woman in handcuffs has been shared with the claim that a French policeman arrested a young Muslim girl and forcefully removed her headscarf.\u00a0 The video was posted by Twitter user @HaiderAslam13 and several others.
