The black-and-white image is being shared alongside another photo of actor Rajat Tokas, who played Akbar in the television serial &#8216;Jodha Akbar&#8217;. It is being claimed that Akbar was physically weak in real life, but &#8216;leftist forces&#8217; have depicted him as a powerful ruler onscreen. Users have been taking pot-shots at the ancient leader while sharing the viral collage. Twitter user Divyaba Jadeja wrote in one such post, &#8220;The Left told us that Akbar was great, but the truth is he was the complete opposite!&#8221; It racked up more than 800 retweets at the time of writing. Therefore, this cannot be a picture of the Mughal king. The next step was to identify the man in the image.<\/p>\n<p>Alt News performed a Google reverse image search and found this photo on the <a href=\"https:\/\/indianculture.gov.in\/stories\/bahadur-shah-zafar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indian Culture<\/a> portal of the Indian government. The website states that the person appearing in the collage is Mirza Shah Abbas, the son of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor. Mirza Jawan Bakht (left), Bahadur Shah Zafar&#8217;s second son is also in the picture. The website mentions that the picture was taken in the 1850-60s. It is to be noted that Akbar was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biography.com\/political-figure\/akbar-the-great\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">born in 1542<\/a> and died in 1605, whereas his Mirza Shah Abbas was <a href=\"https:\/\/peoplepill.com\/people\/mirza-shah-abbas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">born in 1845<\/a> and died in 1910.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-84874 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-41.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"616\" height=\"656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-41.jpeg 616w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-41-282x300.jpeg 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We conducted further research into Mirza Shah and found this picture on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mirza_Shah_Abbas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikipedia<\/a> as well. <a href=\"https:\/\/hindi.news18.com\/photogallery\/knowledge\/bahadur-shah-zafar-the-last-mughal-who-lead-the-revolt-against-british-in-1857-1559512.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A News18 Hindi article<\/a> dated October 24, 2018, shared it as a photo of Bahadur Shah Zafar&#8217;s son.<\/p>\n<p>Another reverse image search using Yandex led us to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soas.ac.uk\/gallery\/india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website of SOAS University of London<\/a>. The viral image was found in a collection of photographs from 1850 to 1900. According to the website, this picture was taken in 1858 and was part of the Howard and Jane Ricketts\u2019 Collection. These photos from India were exhibited in London from October 11 to December 15, 2001.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-84875 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-42.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-42.jpeg 551w, https:\/\/www.altnews.in\/english-clone-2026\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/01\/word-image-42-278x300.jpeg 278w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ricketts were 19th-century photography experts from Britain. They began collecting photographs of 19th-century India <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soas.ac.uk\/gallery\/india\/ricketts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in 1972<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, a picture of Mughal ruler Bahadur Shah Zafar&#8217;s son Mirza Shah Abbas was falsely shared on social media as his Akbar.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Update: Mirza Shah Abbas was referred to as Akbar&#8217;s grandson in the story. He is the grandson of Akbar II while the story is about Akbar I.
