university in Delhi the first of its kind in India? We began our investigation with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?sxsrf=ALeKk03uZiPhO9xYVm7VTzzbRAnEFVpRfg%3A1615553100648&amp;ei=TGJLYJuDJ6KSmgeX56OgBQ&amp;q=education+training+colleges+and+universities+in+india&amp;oq=education+training+colleges+and+universities+in&amp;gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYAjIFCCEQoAEyBQghEKABMgUIIRCgATIFCCEQkgMyBQghEJIDMgUIIRCSAzIFCCEQkgM6BwgAEEcQsAM6CAghEBYQHRAeULgLWPkOYNUkaAFwAngAgAGEAogB9gaSAQUwLjEuM5gBAKABAaoBB2d3cy13aXrIAQjAAQE&amp;sclient=gws-wiz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google search<\/a> which revealed that teachers&#8217; universities, which train students for the teaching profession, exist in several cities.<\/p>\n<p>One of these is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iite.ac.in\/the-university\/about-iite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE)<\/a> in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. Established in 2010 by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, it offers Bachelor&#8217;s, Master&#8217;s, and Research level programs.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tnteu.ac.in\/about_us.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University<\/a> was set up in Tamil Nadu under an Act passed by the government in 2008. Students can opt for courses in the Bachelors to Research level.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from this, there is also a teachers\u2019 university in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbuttepa.ac.in\/history.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">West Bengal<\/a> which was established in 2015 and offers Bachelor&#8217;s, Master&#8217;s, PhD, and M.Phil programs. There are a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teflindia.com\/teacher-training-india.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">private institutes<\/a> also which offer courses in education.<\/p>\n<p>The National Council for Teacher Education is an organization created specifically for teacher training. A list on its website contains the names of the teacher training institutes in India, which can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncte.gov.in\/website\/RecognizedInstitutions.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, teachers and headmasters receive training under the government&#8217;s flagship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.india.gov.in\/spotlight\/nishtha#:~:text=NISHTHA%20is%20a%20capacity%20building,training%20programme%20of%20its%20kind.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">teacher training initiative, &#8216;NISHTHA&#8217;<\/a>. On March 11, The Quint published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thequint.com\/news\/webqoof\/indias-first-teachers-uni-to-come-up-in-delhi-cm-is-mistaken#read-more\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fact-check article<\/a> on Arvind Kejriwal&#8217;s statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Delhi CM&#8217;s claim about setting up the first teacher training university in Delhi is false.
