In fact, it was investigated in June 2017 by several media organizations, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelallantop.com\/jhamajham\/truth-behind-viral-message-about-ndtv-co-founder-prannoy-roy-spreading-after-cbi-raid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Lallantop<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ichowk.in\/social-media\/viral-tweets-on-prannoy-roy-co-founder-of-ndtv\/story\/1\/7123.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iChowk<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcrescendo.com\/pranoy-roys-original-identity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fact Crescendo<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibtimes.co.in\/fact-check-prannoy-roy-not-pakistan-old-message-resurfaces-828436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Business Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Claim \u2013 CBI raided the home of NDTV founder Prannoy Roy where they recovered his birth certificate that said his name is &#8216;Parvez Raja&#8217; and his birthplace is Karachi.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livehindustan.com\/national\/story-cbi-raids-homes-of-ndtv-s-prannoy-roy-his-wife-in-2008-icici-bank-fraud-case-1124446.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">On June 5, 2017,<\/a> the CBI indeed raided the Delhi and Dehradun homes of Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika. These were carried out in connection with an alleged loss of Rs 48 crore they had caused to ICICI bank. NDTV had issued a statement claiming the CBI&#8217;s move was politically motivated and an attack on the freedom of the press. The CBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/full-text-of-cbi-statement-on-ndtv-raids\/article18730621.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released its own statement soon after, claiming<\/a> that the allegations being probed were not related to the delay in repayment of loans, but Rs 48 crore allegedly misappropriated by NDTV promoters (Prannoy Roy, Radhika Roy, M\/s RRPR Holdings Pvt Ltd) and the loss incurred by ICICI Bank. The CBI had accused them of criminal conspiracy and collusion.<\/p>\n<p>Neither the CBI&#8217;s press release nor any media reports suggest that Roy&#8217;s birth name is &#8216;Parvez Raja&#8217; and he was born in Karachi.<\/p>\n<p>Roy was, in fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/starsunfolded.com\/prannoy-roy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">born<\/a> in Kolkata, West Bengal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Claim &#8211; The full form of NDTV is &#8216;Nawazuddin Tawfiq Venture&#8217; after Prannoy Roy&#8217;s father.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This claim has no basis whatsoever. Founded in 1988, the full form of NDTV is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibef.org\/industry\/media-entertainment-india\/showcase\/new-delhi-television-ltd-ndtv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Delhi Television<\/a>. Roy&#8217;s father is named <a href=\"https:\/\/starsunfolded.com\/prannoy-roy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hurricane Roy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Claim \u2013 Roy&#8217;s wife Radhika&#8217;s actual name is Rahila. Her grandfather was a cook in Babur&#8217;s army.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Radhika Roy, the co-founder of NDTV, was born on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.linkfang.org\/wiki\/Radhika_Roy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 7, 1949, in Kolkata<\/a>. Her maiden name was Radhika Das. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneindia.com\/politicians\/brinda-karat-71675.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brinda Karat<\/a> of the CPI(M) is her sister, and their father&#8217;s name is Suraj Lal Das.<\/p>\n<p>The second claim about Radhika&#8217;s grandfather being a cook in Babur&#8217;s army is also completely false. Mughal emperor Babur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoughtco.com\/babur-founder-of-the-mughal-empire-195489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was born in 1483 and died in 1530<\/a>. How can Radhika, born almost 400 years later, be the granddaughter of his cook?<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Claim &#8211; A dartboard with a picture of Narendra Modi was recovered from their bedroom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/politics-and-nation\/cbi-raids-ndtv-founder-prannoy-roys-home\/articleshow\/58997117.cms?from=mdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No such dartboard<\/a> was found during the searches. Moreover, the case was related to financial dealings where details of personal articles recovered from the individual are usually not made public.<\/p>\n<p>The message was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelallantop.com\/jhamajham\/truth-behind-viral-message-about-ndtv-co-founder-prannoy-roy-spreading-after-cbi-raid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">investigated by The Lallantop<\/a> in June 2017. The featured image used by the channel has now been shared with the fictitious story.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GWxP0Un2gYg]<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Where did this claim originate?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It was first posted by Twitter handle @RoflGandhi_ as a satirical message. On June 6, 2017, the users had shared a WhatsApp screenshot of the message which was picked up and widely circulated. The user confirmed that the message was originally shared on their account.
