Not from India

Alt News found that the poster was not featured in any part of the country, let alone put up by students of AMU. The banner was a part of a recent protest organised outside the Indian High Commission in London.

On August 15, protestors waved Pakistani and Kashmiri flags outside the Commission against the Indian government’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370. A Times of India report says that Khalistan flags were also waved at the rally which turned violent after protestors began throwing objects like shoes, bottles, eggs, etc.

A Pakistani Twitter user had also uploaded a picture of the same poster now circulating on social media with a false claim.

Aligarh police took cognisance of the misinformation and clarified via a tweet that the poster was not put up by AMU students.

Thus, a poster that was part was a protest in London against the dilution of Article 370 is viral on social media targetting Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh Muslim University.
