“At the most sacred spot in Kenya: the Indian community of Nyeri celebrated the 4th #IYD2018 at the foot of #MtKenya yesterday,” read a Tweet by the Indian High Commission in Kenya, with purported images of Indians doing Yoga on the foothills of Mount Kenya to celebrate International Yoga Day 2018.

The tweet has now been deleted by @IndiaInKenya after several users tweeted that it’s fake.

Photoshopped image

One of the first images that crops up when one searches Mount Kenya on Google is the photograph used in the tweet.

Moreover, they are poorly photoshopped and if one notices closely, the clouds in all the images are positioned at the exact same place behind the mountains.

The Indian High Commission in Kenya has deleted the tweet and apologised for sharing unverified images. They tweeted that the photographs were sent to them by a community member.

Indian High Commission in Kenya’s clarification on the error is appreciable at a time when misinformation on social media is commonplace.
