1. A video of a Sikh truck driver being pulled by his hair and brutally assaulted is viral on social media. It is being claimed that the man assaulting the victim is the nephew of Keshav Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The message shared with the clip says, “इलाहाबाद मे उप मुख्यमंत्री केशव मोर्या के भतीजे ने ट्रक चालक की पगड़ी उतार कर बेरहमी से पीटा सिक्ख धर्म के चालक ने कहा जितना मारना है मार लो पर मेरे बाल ना खोलो पर सत्ता के नशे मे चूर नेता ने बाल पकड़ कर घसीट घसीट कर मारा. (Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya’s nephew brutally thrashed a truck driver in Allahabad. The driver from the Sikh community asked him (the nephew) to beat him as much as he wants but not open his turban. But the minister, drunk in power, dragged the man by his hair.)”

What is the truth?

Alt News found that this video is of an incident that took place in Jammu in 2016.

The victim, Harvinder Singh, was assaulted by a person called Vani Gupta. According to a website dailysikhupdates.com, Gupta was caught by the police and charged under sections 341, 323, 295, 307 and attempt to murder of the IPC. The victim underwent medical treatment and appeared to be recovering well.
