A video of a densely packed marketplace has gone viral on social media as New Delhi’s Jafrabad and Seelampur areas. It has been claimed that the video shows Muslims who flocked to the markets for Eid shopping. The people seen in the clip are not wearing masks and clearly flouting social distancing norms. Facebook user Vidrohi Saheb shared the clip and wrote, “Scenes from New Delhi’s Jafrabad…Looks like PM Modi has already begun holding rallies for the Delhi elections.” It racked up 8,900 views at the time of writing. Twitter user @SmokingSkills_, who has a following of 76,000, also circulated the video as Jafrabad, gaining 14,000 views before taking down the tweet.
The clip is viral on Twitter and Facebook. It has also made its way to WhatsApp. We received a few requests to verify the video on the Alt News official mobile application. (Android, iOS)

We performed a reverse image search of the video’s frames and found it on a Facebook post dated April 25, 2021. The post says the incident is from Pakistan’s Ichra Bazaar in Lahore.
The video was also uploaded on YouTube the following day as scenes from Ichra Bazaar.

Pakistani media outlet Geo Pakistan reported about the massive crowd that had gathered at the marketplace for Eid shopping.

However, it is noteworthy that there were reports of large crowds frequenting markets for Eid shopping in India, including Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh.
Last year, photos of crowds of Eid shoppers at Anarkali Bazaar in Pakistan’s Faisalabad were passed off as Hyderabad.
