Fact-check

We performed a reverse image search of frames from the video, which led us to an ETV Bharat report dated April 26, 2021. It states that a group of assailants stabbed a rowdy sheeter in Bangalore’s Ashok Nagar to death. Police arrested six people following the incident.

Ravi Verma alias Appu was murdered by Dinesh and his associates. Verma had been released from prison two weeks prior to the incident. On the night of April 20, 2021, he had gone to a shop in Fajima Gali, Ashok Nagar when around five people assaulted and killed him.

The Hindu and The New Indian Express also covered the incident however, neither of these reports mentions any communal angle to the killing.

To sum it up, an April 2021 video of a convict being murdered in Bengaluru was falsely shared as the recent violence against the Muslim community in Tripura.
