On October 25, Delhi Youth Congress tweeted (archived link) a video of a man assaulting a woman in an elevator and wrote, “See how a predator made a life-threatening attack on a woman in Delhi Metro’s lift! @ArvindKejriwal ji and @narendramodi look at the result of women’s safety in Delhi due to your false claims.” The same video was also shared on their Facebook page.

2019 video from Malaysia
Alt News performed a reverse image search on Google using InVID, a video verification tool.
This led us to a 2019 report by Stomp, The Strait Times’ citizen journalism portal. The report relied on Malaysia-based newspaper The Star to identify where the incident happened. As per The Star, it took place on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2019) at Taman Mutiara metro station in Kuala Lumpur district of Cheras.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Md Isa told The Star that the victim suffered multiple injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. He also added that the assailant escaped with the woman’s ATM cards and 400 Malaysian ringgit in cash.
The Daily Mail reported that MP Lim Lip Eng offered a 10,000-MYR (┬г1,895) reward to anyone with information that leads to the suspect’s arrest. Four days later, on February 18, the suspect was arrested by Kuala Lumpur Police as per Channel News Asia report. KiniTV reported that the suspect was of Indian descent.
Thus, Delhi Youth Congress shared a video of robbery in a metro station’s elevator in Malaysia and passed it off as a recent incident that happened in New Delhi. The video was subsequently shared on social media by other users as well.
