A video showing several members of a family injured and in blood-stained clothes is viral on social media with claims that an influential Muslim family in Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar was beaten up for protesting the use of loudspeakers in a Hindu event in their area.
X user @SanataniMuslim_ shared the video with a sarcastic caption that the treatment meted out to them was “exactly the spirit needed”.
“These gentlemen went there to get the loudspeaker turned off, and then the Hindus very calmly explained things to these peacekeepers,” part of the caption read. (Archive)

Fact Check
To verify the authenticity of the claims, we broke down the video into several key frames. A reverse image search on these led us to the same video on Instagram uploaded on June 14, 2021.

The caption read “Armed Hindutva mob, led by Vipin, attacked Muslim family at midnight in Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar, injuring 14 people including 3 females. They called them Pakistanis and used other anti-Muslim slurs. This is second time family faced violence since Feb 2020.”
Taking cue from this, we ran a keyword search on Google and came across a news report by The Indian Express from June 14, 2021. The report said “local residents from different communities” in Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar area had gotten into a heated argument over the opening of a gate in the area.
According to the report, a resident from a nearby area, named Vipin Kumar, tried accessing the gate late at night. Having found it locked, Kumar got into an argument with the security guard. At this point, resident Mohd. Yasin, along with his family members, intervened and rebuked Kumar. They allegedly assaulted him too. In response, Kumar called his relatives to the spot and a scuffle broke out between the two groups. Individuals from both sides sustained injuries in the altercation.
Moreover, we also found an X post by the official handle of the North East Delhi deputy commissioner of police (@DCPNEastDelhi) from June 13, 2021. It said that a criminal case was registered and urged everyone not to share anything that would promote communal disharmony.
A criminal case has been registered regarding Yamuna Vihar incident and legal action initiated.
We request people to neither share nor promote inflammatory posts with twisted facts being circulated on social media with an intention to disturb our communal harmony.

Based on these findings, it is clear that those injured in the viral video were part of a brawl that took place between residents of Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar in 2021. The video has resurfaced four years later and is being shared with misleading claims that a Muslim family was beaten up by Hindus for protesting the use of loudspeakers in a religious ceremony.
