A video of scores of women fighting to grab sarees inside a shop is being shared with the claim that during the Bihar Bandh on September 4, members of the BJP Mahila Morcha looted a saree shop in Muzaffarpur while shouting slogans, “I am also a mother.”
The official X handle of the Rashtriya Janata Dal shared the video and claimed the same. The post was later deleted. (Archived link)
The NDA had called the five-hour Bihar bandh in protest against objectionable remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother at a Voter Adhikar Yatra meeting convened by Congress and the other Opposition parties.
Journalist Aavesh Tiwari shared the viral video claiming that BJP Mahila Morcha leaders looted a saree shop in Muzaffarpur during the bandh. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut quoted this post and took a dig at the BJP by adding, “Modi! Modi! Modi!” (Archived link)
An account named Saral Vyangya also made a similar claim while sharing the viral footage. (Archived link)
Fact Check
We did a reverse image search using a few frames taken from the viral video. This led us to an Instagram account named ‘Agarwal Sarees’ that uploaded the same video on August 20. The caption reads, “Day 60 of big sale 2025 of Agarwal Sarees”. This makes it clear that the video was shot before the Bihar Bandh.

We found many other such videos of the same shop posted by this account. The captions of some of the videos mention the location of the Agarwal Saree store as Hathipol, Udaipur. When we searched with the phone number provided in the Instagram bio, we found a shop named ‘Agarwal’s Sarees and Suits’ on Google Maps. The shop is indeed located in Udaipur, Rajasthan and its contact number is the same as the one mentioned in the bio of the Instagram account named Agarwal Saree. This also confirms that the viral video is not from Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The owner of the shop confirmed to Alt News that the video was from his store in Udaipur on the day of a sale.
To sum up, a number of social media handles, including the official handle of the RJD and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut shared a video from a saree shop in Rajasthan falsely claiming that BJP Mahila Morcha leaders had looted a saree shop during the Bihar bandh called by the NDA on September 4.
