BJP leaders recently circulated a picture on social media showing two auto-rickshaws parked on a road with the following written on them: “Kejriwal ko Delhi se bhagayenge.” (Will drive away Kejriwal from Delhi). Sharing this image, they claim it reflects the growing anger on the streets of Delhi against Arvind Kejriwal, the former chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader.
The official BJP Delhi account shared the photo, captioning it with the statement, “The people of Delhi have decided, it’s time to get rid of Kejriwal!” (Archived link).
BJP leader Kapil Mishra also posted this picture on Twitter (Archived link).
Additionally, BJP leader Gaurav Parashar shared it, claiming this reflected the reality from Delhi’s streets (Archived link).
Fact Check
We conducted a reverse-image search of the viral picture on Google and found the original uploaded on Wikimedia Commons by Subhashish Panigrahi on April 9, 2013. Notably, the original photo does not contain any slogan against Kejriwal. Instead, it reads “Ayush Gupta, Akansha, ghar kab aaoge.”
This indicates that the viral image was digitally altered to include the political message. The contrast between the original and edited images can be observed in the comparison provided below.
Interestingly, in February 2018, Fevicol also had edited this image for use in their advertisements.
To sum up, BJP Delhi and several of its leaders shared an altered picture, falsely suggesting that auto-rickshaws in Delhi were displaying slogans against former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
