A 40-second clip of a man being dragged by police is viral on social media with the claim that it shows the last moments of Bangladeshi youth Dipu Chandra Das, who was allegedly lynched and his body burnt on a highway in Mymensingh district on December 18.
X user Chandan Sharma (@ChandanSharmaG) shared the above-mentioned video on December 22 with a caption in Hindi that said, “Deepu Chandra Das kept crying. He kept pleading. But the Bangladesh police handed him over to die at the hands of radical Muslims…” Sharma also stated that though Deepu kept saying that he was innocent, “the Bangladesh police, which is filled with Muslims, handed him over to the radical Muslims.” (Archive)

The last video of Dipu Chandra Das. He is pleading for life. Look at the faces of cops. Zero empathy or mercy.

Fact Check
To verify the authenticity of this clip, we broke the viral clip into multiple keyframes and ran a reverse image search on a few of them. This led us to a Facebook post by a page called Bhorer Kagoj from November 18. From this post, it is clear that the video is not related to the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, as it predates the Mymensingh incident by a month.

The post by Bhorer Kagoj carried a caption in Bengali which said, “What happened to this Dhaka College student”? In the video, the police ask the man, “Why have you come here”? The man replies that he had come to the market. Next, the distraught youth is seen speaking on the phone with someone and telling them that he was being beaten up by the police and that a senior officer had saved him. Another man, seemingly a friend of the man who was being apprehended, appears towards the end of the video. He is heard mentioning that they had just come from the campus — which again goes on to indicate that they are students of Dhaka College.
Upon running a relevant keyword search, we came across another video from the same incident taken from a different angle posted on YouTube channel @dhakatoday_news. It is titled, “College student start crying after being beaten up by police.”
The man is heard saying in Bengali, “Have I lied, sir?” In contrast with other police personnel, the senior officer seems to behave calmly with the man. Additionally, we noticed in both videos that the man is wearing a jersey which says the name ‘Momin’ on the back, which further indicates that this incident is completely unrelated to the alleged lynching of Dipu Chandra Das.
Here is a comparison which further makes it clear that the man in the viral video is not Dipu Chandra Das:

Therefore, the claim that this viral video shows the last moments of Dipu Chandra Das being dragged by Bangladeshi cops before being left at the mercy of a mob that killed him is false. The video predates the violence and is completely unrelated to the alleged lynching of Das.
